Fellow Kahles optics owners, I am needing to line out the remainder of my precision rifles with optics. Ever since I got my 624i with the AMR, I have really liked the Kahles. I do like the AMR reticle, though I have to admit, I am not the biggest fan of how thick the first series of .2 mil hashes surrounding the crosshair are. As I was shooting it this past weekend, I started becoming curious with the SKMR 3 reticle. Unfortunately, there is not anyone I know who owns one and thus I am stuck looking at Google's shitty images. When I look at the SKMR 3 I cannot help but think that the lines which comprise the "Christmas tree" type design would be more of a hindrance than a help. Essentially, I question whether or not those lines cover up much of your sight picture and/or your target, particularly when you are using the reticle for holdovers?

Any of you folks with experience on these reticles with any input would be greatly appreciated. To be quite honest, I wish I could take the center crosshair of the SKMR 3 (basically an open dot) and put it on the AMR's Christmas tree, but I'm just a lowly shooter, don't know much about reticle design, accept for what I like.

Purpose of rifles are for competing and general target shooting.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Good observation, kujuak. I felt the same about the H59 reticle after I saw it "in living color." I had always only seen pictures of Horus' H59 reticle, never saw one in person. I always thought that reticle was "too cluttered," but then a buddy of mine got an H59 in a S&B, and suddenly, it looked much better than those damn Google pics.

The only other obvious thought I have running through my mind is the simple fact that the SKMR 3 probably wouldn't be so damn popular if the reticle was not functional.

FALex,

Both options are very popular for both PRS style shooting and general purpose target shooting, but since the SKMR3 has been released it outsells the other MIL reticles pretty heavily. We have more SKMR3's shipping to us this week if you'd like to try one out, I'm sure you'll be very pleased  https://www.cstactical.com/kahles-k6...ccw-skmr3.aspx Call 916.670.1103 for hide pricing.

I have the amr on my 338 lapua and the skmr3 on my 6.5 creedmoor. I really like them both. For prs style shooting I think the skmr 3 is perfect and I prefer the amr for elr stuff. I don't find the Christmas tree to be in the way at all and it works really well for holdovers for me without obscuring the target.

I have both, shoot mainly PRS, a match or two a month. I agree, for me AMR with the fine SKMR3 center dot would be ideal. I occasionally find the center dot of the AMR obscures some of the target. But also find the 0.5 mil elevation subtensionon the SKMR3 don't give the precision of the 0.2....I hold over a lot instead of dialing elevation and the AMR works better for me in that regard.

but at the end of the day, both work well. While most seem to prefer the SKMR3, I prefer the AMR.
