That would be correct, sir. And it's not a stupid question if you don't know.
I have a Karsten cheekpiece on my work rifle and I heartily endorse it. And Karsten's a great guy to deal with, too. I don't use the neoprene pad on mine; I didn't need it on the McMillan stock the cheekpiece is mounted to and see no need for it on the cheekrest. I do think a lot of folks will prefer it though. The really nice thing about the cheekrest is its adjustability; you can place it exactly where you need it for a 100% natural hold, which is important if you are going to be on the scope for extended periods of time, but change its height quickly and easily if you need to. My rifle is camouflaged with Krylon, and the paint adheres well to the cheekpiece. It's a great piece of equipment.
