As many of you know, I'm in gunsmithing school. This is a project being done right now in school.

It is a 10/22 receiver, made from a solid block of steel. It has an integral picatinny rail, and uses a threaded barrel instead of the slip in factory ones.

It is almost done. I should have final pics up within a month.

I'm curious about how you have to notify ATF that you're manufacturing a new receiver?</div></div>

My understanding is that you don't have to do a thing. Legal to build your own rifle (non NFA) from scratch.

Strictly manual.

Some are even done without the benefit of a DRO.

I firmly believe that all new machinists/gunsmiths/engineers should be taught and forced to use regular dials for a while before they discover DRO's. It will make them much more careful and rely on a computer less down the road.

I have a bone to pick with most engineers that can't turn a wrench or run a machine to begin with, but that's another story entirely.

if it were me, I would have done a 40 MOA cant, and a rear lug/tang in the back of the receiver for mounting to the stock...but either way, looks great...can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: AZ Precision made 10/22

Greg, great idea. I wish I would have worked out how to used ball detents instead. Next time I will.

I'm doing a left charging handle next time too. Keeping a right side ejection port though, but losing the RH charging handle.

I'm going to Yavapai in Arizona.

Thanks guys

Threaded hole. Threaded tube nested in threaded hole with screw slot in outer end. In goes spring and then ball, then screw the tube into the threaded hole to retain it all. Tune depth, then green Lok-Tite.

Nice looking job. Now where's the pics of groups?

Yeah, I've had MISERABLE results from some lots and others were just crappy. MV consistency from them was piss poor from a few rifles that I shot them out of.

Re: AZ Precision made 10/22

From what I can tell it will shoot extremely well with CCI 40gr subsonics and CCI standard velocity(40gr at 1435fps I think).
The only groups I've shot were during sight in at 30 yards. I wasnt trying too hard and didnt have a rest of any kind so those groups dont count. That said, I shot 1/4" at 30 yards. I felt it would have easily done that at 50 if I actually had a sand bag or two. So from what I can tell theres no reason it shouldnt do half MOA out to 100 yards or so if theres no wind.

I'll upload some crappy pics in about 20 minutes. I aint no good at takin pictures.
