Re: Kent, WA

Hey overwatch I have some good news for you. there are two resources at your disposal.
1 on the site look in this section for the shww group and topics. It is formed with guys from around here.
secondly go to westcoasttactical.com you can find locals there as well.
Me I am in Bremerton about an hour from where you will be. Tribe is out that way though as well as a couple of others

Re: Kent, WA

Feel free to PM me when you get into town... or just throw your hat in the ring with SHWW Group...

Re: Kent, WA

RGB820 - BY "2-6k" do you mean 200 to 600 yards? if so, the answer is yes! Cascade Rifle and Pistol Club is one of several places to shoot.

"Tribe" here on the hide is a member of that range and he can really hook you up.

Also, what sort of rifle, what types of shooting, are you interested in reloading, etc is the type of info that you can find a lot of answers for. The SHWW guys have a wealth of information they can share with you.

Welcome aboard!

Not that I am aware of. Seattle is definately not Wyoming in that respect. Link up with dontstrokeme as he is a wealth of information on shooting sites.

Make sure you introduce yourself on the Sniper's Hide of Western Washington thread. That is where you will get the largest amount of local info.

10 wounded as gunfire erupts at Kent car show

At least 10 people were shot Saturday afternoon in the 23200 block of Pacific Highway South, a Kent Fire Department spokesman said.

By Emily Heffter and Mike Lindblom

Seattle Times staff reporters

A fight at a crowded Kent car show escalated Saturday afternoon, leaving 10 people shot as cars sped away from the scene and frightened spectators ducked into the safety of nearby businesses.

Hundreds of people packed the La Plaza parking lot all day before the shooting. At least one shooter fired from the front of the shopping center into the crowd.

Patrons and employees in nearby shops and restaurants locked the doors and crouched in back rooms as the crack of gunfire filled the air like fireworks.

“First I heard like six shots, then they kept going,” said Alejandro Lara, a witness. He said he saw a single gunman firing into the parking lot full of people.

Police said they don’t know how many shooters there were. No arrests had been made by Saturday night.

“People were leaving as we were coming, and victims were our first priority,” said Kent Police Sgt. Jarod Kasner.

Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg said eight people — six men and two women — were admitted to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“They’re all in satisfactory condition,” she said. “All conscious and talking.”

She said ages of the wounded ranged from 14 to 32. The victims, she said, were hit on a foot, leg and chest, among other places.

Kasner said a fight broke out just before the shooting.

He described a chaotic scene as cars sped away from the La Raza lowrider show after the shooting at about 4:15 p.m. Shop owners near the La Plaza shopping center in the 23200 block of Pacific Highway South said they locked their doors and hid in back rooms while shots rang out.

Erica Parker said she was working at a Subway shop near the car show when she and other employees heard gunshots. People started running in, she said, screaming, “He’s got a gun!”

The employees said one of the victims was a middle-aged man for whom they had made a sandwich a half-hour before.

“We could see somebody laying on the ground outside the store,” Parker said.

Witnesses said the La Raza car show had been going on in the parking lot during the weekend. About 50 souped-up cars were on display, and the event had been crowded all day.

A poster for the event said it was a free, all-ages lowrider show sponsored by Lokos music store. Besides a car show, several music groups were scheduled to perform.

After the shooting, drink cans and bottles were left scattered as people rushed from the scene. Within an hour, all the cars were gone.

At Pro Nails near the scene, employee Tran Tran said she heard a couple of pops, which she thought might be gunfire or firecrackers.

Shortly after, a mother with two children went into the store and said she was scared and had been standing right next to a gunman.

About 10 people rushed into the back restrooms of the nail shop after locking the front door, Tran said.

The owner of a nearby restaurant said an off-duty police officer had just finished a meal with his family when the shooting started. He left to go to his car, but returned to the restaurant and told everyone to get away from the windows.

The restaurant owner, who did not want her name in the paper, said she had been intimidated throughout the weekend by the rowdy crowds at the car show.

Before the shooting, she said, she saw two men fighting on a corner at the edge of the plaza.

Seattle Times staff reporters Emily Heffter, Mike Lindblom and Dominic Gates contributed to this story.

Re: Kent, WA

Re: the Kent shooting.

That's the start of a gang war between the Varrio Locos and Playboys13. There have been 2 shootings, including that casino shooting (5 hit)the next day and the stabbing the day after that were all related.

Of course we officially don't have a gang problem in the Seattle area......

Re: Kent, WA

I figured it would be gang related... no mention of that in the press report of course.

Thanks.

Re: Kent, WA

I'm also new to the area. I wanted somewhere to shoot that had a range greater than the standard 100-200 yards. There are a number of clubs that have 500-600 yard ranges ,but they seldom allow you to shoot on them (Paul Bunyan and Tacoma Sportsmans). But the Upper Nisqually Sportsman's club near Eatonville has a range that you can shoot on anytime (unless there is a match) that has 100-200-300-400-500-550 yard distances. My laser said that the 550 yard line is actually 540 yards, and the berm is at 545 yards. But as long as I know what the distances are, I'm very happy with it.

Another thing I like about that group is that so far, I haven't run into any range nazis there. The shooters there use common sense, and although safety is paramount, they don't get really worked up over inconsequential violations of the rules...(if you are having a conversation during a cease fire and your foot touches the yellow line during a cease fire rather being than behind it, they will remind you of the rules without going nuts about it)

Anyhow, the club has a nice facility, and I have yet to see half of the benches filled at the firing line I use, so it isn't crowded. I just wish it was a bit closer.

Re: Kent, WA

I haven't been out to the Upper Nisqually yet. Glad to hear a review of it. It's a serious pain to find somewhere to shoot more than 300yds around here.

Thanks.

All the group links here seem to be dead. Anybody still active in the area? I’m in Issaquah/Maple Valley.
