Kestrel 4500

My batteries were getting low so i figured I'd change them, now the screen turned black with 2 different brands of new batteries in it. The old ones are completely dead now so I can't try them, has anybody else had this happen to them?

mine got funky when i 1st changed them.. didnt want to turn back on... but self fixed after a few min...
