i am interested in purchasing a kestrel meter. can anyone give me some advice on the one that i would need for easy learning. i shoot some long range and benchrest. not really a gadget guy but want a good reliable meter! thanks

Re: kestrel weather meter

I wanted density altitude when I bought mine which meant a 4000 at minimum. It is super easy to use and learn.

I got lucky and scored a 4000NV (not that I need the NV capability) on Amazon for 199.00 due to damage to the unopened package. Deals can be had there if you keep your eye on it.

Re: kestrel weather meter

Definitely get everything you need from a 4500.

That said, I run a 2500 in conjunction with a FDAC(field density altitude compensator). Since I shoot 175/8 308, the FDAC is my dope card, and it has a DA graph right on it. I calc my DA, slide the card, and there is my firing solution. Like frickin magic, the FDAC has been very accurate and I keep my gadgets to a min.

Even without the FDAC one can find a DA graph online.

Maybe not the perfect solution for everyone, but works for me.

Re: kestrel weather meter

agreed ... Kestrel 4500 and FDAC cant go wrong ...

However the FDAC is a backup to my Nomad and FFS. I got the 4500 NVBT so that it can feed the telemetry directly into the FFS program.
