I am having a rifle built, I have been looking at KG Gun Kote and Cerakote, I was wondering if any one knows which one has the more durable finish. Would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Re: KG Gun Kote or Cerakote

The Tabor wear test is the industry standard measure of abrasion resistance. Cerakote holds a 16 to 1 advantage over KG Gun Kote, A 13 to 1 advantage over Duracoat and a whopping 34 times more resistant to abrasion than Moly Resin. Birdsong will not provide it's product for testing in a proper test but in side by side similar applications it is inferior. After much personal testing and research I chose to align my shop with the very best products for my customers and as far as firearms finishes Cerakote is the only one worthy of my endorsement.

Have only used KG coat and have had no issues with it. I plan to send one in to Kampfelds here shortly and i know he uses cerekote. Looking forward to seeing how they compare to each other.

Ive seen this test, but Ive never seen them mention what series of Gunkote was used in the test. I have a VERY hard time believing it was the 2400 series oven cure. I can believe it was 1200 air cure. I may be wrong, but KG 2400 is definitely superior to Duracoat IMO. Not saying its on par with Cerakote, but closer than that.
