kicking around a project idea...

I've been shooting for a while now and doing really well in F-class competitions within my club. However, there seems to be a trend at the moment for people moving towards F-open competition (non 308, 223) and having fired an F-open rifle last weekend, I think I've got the bug..

at the moment, I'm just conceptualizing but I'm thinking I want to build a 7WSM and I'm looking for advice on what way to go. I'm thinking 175gr Sierra match kings would be the heaviest I'd shoot, and I'm uncertain what barrel length and twist would be required for this caliber.

I've narrowed my choice of action down to a Barnard or a Stiller Tac30.(assuming I can get it in single shot)

the only other issue i can see is finding brass, I know winchester sells 7WSM brass but I've heard mixed reviews and I'm uncertain what direction to go. If only Lapua made 7WSM brass..

Am I on the right track? or is there other things I should consider?

thanks in advance for any input.

Re: kicking around a project idea...

I was hoping to get input from some people who own 7WSM rifles and their experience, this isn't a priority project by any means but Its definitely something that will happen over the next 2 years.

does anyone know if the stiller tac30 is available in a single shot config?

As you live in Aussie , getting a Barnard action maybe easier to get & cheaper than anything from the US .

You may also want to look at a 284 blown out aka a 284 Shenane , as you can use Lapua brass & you will get very , very close to WSM speeds , also look at a Truflite 7mm barrel from NZ as well .

By mate runs the above combo amd its fanastic .

it's always good when the manufacturer chimes in.
