Lately my 1911 keeps driving me crazy at the range. Regardless of the ammo (re-loads, ball, all quality) and the magazines (Wilson, Chip, Kimber, or Chip).

The problem is about every 10-15 rounds the ammo fails to load because in the process of chambering the round ends up at an angle. Does anyone else have a problem with these, or know a solution?

Re: Kimber Warrior issues

Not being a jerk, but look through this thread and see if you see any of these problems.

It could be the rim not sliding under the extractor right, I diagnosed a Kimber Crimson Carry with that problem last week. Mine had an extractor problem too, along with a badly fitted slide stop, but runs perfectly now.

Re: Kimber Warrior issues

Is the feed ramp polished? how is your extractor tension? is she well lubed? Is this a factory gun or has it been worked on?

Re: Kimber Warrior issues

Does your Kimber have an external extractor. If so, they sometimes have just a little too much tension which can be corrected by shortening the spring SLIGHTLY. I have encountered this numerous times.

Ouch! That'll leave a mark.

Re: Kimber Warrior issues

That will cure the FTRB problem, or did with the Tactical Custom I briefly owned, but the OP's issue sounds different. Also, I think the Warriors are all internal extractors.

The warriors have internal exractors.

Re: Kimber Warrior issues

I am no longer a fan of kimber.

I had similar problems when running a can on my Kimber. Just got it back from my smith today, he throated the barrel and polished the feed ramp AND moved the slide catch up. Now it will cycle empty brass.

Kimber makes shit guns, be advised.

Re: Kimber Warrior issues

I cleaned the hell out of it. Did not notice anything damaged or worn. The ramp is not polished, but never has been. This POS never did this for the two years I have owned it.

Im going to give it a second chance, at the range tomorrow with more new ammo. If it fucks me again im going to consider Kimber on the same status as High Point and try to sell this thing in a hurry(Not on this site).

I've heard from some very good 1911 guys that ramp geometry is much more important than surface finish, it shouldn't need to be polished to run, just reasonably smooth.

My money is still on the extractor. Take your slide off and remove the barrel. Slide a round under up the extractor, and see if it goes up smoothly or if it's too tight or gritty.

Re: Kimber Warrior issues

If it helps I had a very similar problem on an SA Loaded that I use in competition. I had fired a lot without cleaning it. I started having problems with rounds pointing straight up and the cases getting dented by the slide. I thought it might be a bad mag since I have ran it dirty before. I cleaned it and tried it again- no problems at all.
I "think" the feed ramp was dirty enough that the round did not slide in the proper position. It sort of bounced up.

If your pistol is dirty try cleaning and oiling/lubing it then try again. I have a Warrior that has never had a hiccup. If yours ran well before then something has changed to cause the problem. If there was something basic wrong with the pistol it would have come up much sooner. Either the extractor needs tuining or replacing or something else has changed.

Re: Kimber Warrior issues

My SA extractor was MIM and needed replacing after a few years too. I replaced it with a Wilson Bullet-Proof extractor and it solved the ejection problems I had.
There are so many new 1911s with MIM extractors that have problems eventually that I am to the point where I will just replace it when I buy the pistol.
