Gunsmithing KMW cheekpiece installation

Re: KMW cheekpiece installation

Yup, I deserved that lol...
What I shoulda said was someone who can install it, bed the rifle and cerakote the action all at once so I don't have to keep sending pieces/parts all over creation...

Re: KMW cheekpiece installation

I ordered a mcmillan stock, and I knew I wanted the KMW loggerhead hardware installed so I called Terry Cross and asked him what to specify on my order to McMillan. Terry told me what to exactly ask for. He also said to have the stock sent to myself from McMillan to verify that all of the stuff was correct, color, flush cups in the right spot that sort of thing. Then to UPS it to him. That way I could make sure the stock was right for me. I did what he told me and everything came out awesome. His price included return shipping back to me.

As far as the other work, I can't answer that but there is a real good gunsmith that replied earlier in this thread. I'd call him.
Best of luck,
Jack

Re: KMW cheekpiece installation

110len,

First off, thank you for considering my hardware. I appreciate your business (directly or indirectly) and am very, very confident that you will be happy with the long term performance of the hardware.

I can supply the complete hardware kit to you for $49.50 plus UPS. Only critical cuts you need to make is the hole for the clamping cross bolt and mill a 1/2" deep pocket into the bottom of the cheekpiece. Both are easy to cut but position is critical for best cosmetics.

The hardware was designed to be easily adjusted yet never shoot loose. In addition, I wanted a minimum number of holes and gaps in the stock and cheekpiece, not only for appearances but to minimize for mud and crud to get into things.

If you or your shop should decide to outsource the install, KMW can provide the hardware, complete installation and return UPS for $125.00.

PS: It is totally OK to complain and whine to McMillan about not installing this hardware. I would really like to supply them the parts and spend more time here building rifles.

Re: KMW cheekpiece installation

What stock are you considering?

Note that they have a new Adjustable HTG stock out and this hardware will not work in it. The cheekpiece is very small and slim which does not allow enough room to fit the upper assembly into a mill cut.

Any A3, A5 or 3/5 combo will work fine though.

Best,
Terry

Re: KMW cheekpiece installation

I got one of the kits from Terry and did my own install.

I am setup as a cabinetmaker/woodworker and did mine using a router/jig setup.

It's not what I would call a hard install ; Terry was great to deal with and was gracious enough to spend some phone time to explain some of the install tips.

It definitely beats either of the McM setups IMO.

Whichever way you end up doing it...you won't be dissapointed!
