First off if you haven't seen this software and have an iphone or ipod touch you should definitely look into it. its a very, very cool and usefull app. I got the level 2 version. Click here for details

i have a RRA ar15 with a 20" heavy barrel that i use to target shoot and varmint hunt. on the range i love shooting 69gr matchkings, varmint hunting i use anything from 40gr vmax's to 60gr vmax's.

my question is, is there anyway to sight my gun in with one bullet, say the 69gr matchking, then have that software tell me adjustments for the other bullets, the varmint bullets, so i dont have to resight the rifle in every time i use a different bullet?

Re: Knights Armament Bullet Flight Software Question

Well, one way is to sight the rifle in with the new bullet, then record how far from the original sight-in point the new one is. When switching from the original bullet to the new one, just turn the turrets to the zero setting for the new bullet, and reset them to zero.

By carefully noting the adjustments necessary for each bullet, you can shoot a number of different loads without having to shoot for each new zero.

Field Firing Solutions has an Offset Profile feature, which allows the user to enter information about each cartridge being shot, which allows the user to shoot a different load without resetting the turrets on the scope - the program simply calculates the difference in zeroes, and supplies the user with elevation and windage settings appropriate to the cartridge being shot. That's a very handy feature, because not having to reset the turrets will save the time required to do so, which may include having to reset a turret zero stop.

I don't know whether your program has a similar feature.

Re: Knights Armament Bullet Flight Software Question

bullet flight has a add new rifle option. sight in your rifle crono the gun so you get the velocity of your barrel with that ammo and input the info into bullet flight, then repeat but you should find the ammo your gun likes the best and stick to it otherwise just use the add new rifle option with the velocity and start from zero.

Re: Knights Armament Bullet Flight Software Question

i understand you can add new rifles/ammo to the program. i would just like to input like 3-4 .223 ammo loads for a single gun and sight in the rifle for one of those loads, then the app tell me how many clicks i have to change to re-zero the rifle between rounds so i dont have to sight in everytime i change bullets. i only use the 69gr MKG when target shooting, but use multiple bullets when hunting, so it would just make life easier if i could do this.

+1

For Example: Hunting load #1 is zeroed at 100 yards at the range. Change ammo to hunting load #2. Shoot a group. We'll say for arguments sake that it is 1 inch low. WRITE THAT DOWN. Next time you are in the field and switch to ammo #2... adjust your scope 4 clicks up (assuming 1/4MOA) and you will be back on track. Refer to IPOD for trajectory adjustments.

Side Note: If an IPOD could do everything a long range marksman desires... why would this website exist?

its just a portable ballistics program, but more effective than range charts because you can change anything, wind speed and direction, atmospheric conditions, elevation, angle, etc. and you can change them while out in the field and get accurate data about the shot.

i have only been able to test this program on the range and only out to 400 yards, but what i have done so far, it has been really, really accurate.
