LA detachable mag system

Re: LA detachable mag system

The diameter for the 30-06 is going to be a bit smaller than the 300 WM. May have to modify the lips on the 300 WM magazine a bit to prevent the top round from popping out when you insert the mag.

I use the 338LM mag, and modify the lips so that my 300 WM rounds fit nicely, and functions flawlessly.

I have the KwikKlip, I would avoid it. The OAL in the mags is 3.45" and with the high BC, modern bullets for 30-06 and 280 the mags are too short.

I would back up what others have suggested, which is to get the AICS setup, 300WM magazines and close up the feed lips a touch.

0.403-0.405 at the rear and 0.407-0.410 at the front of the feed lips works pretty well for a buddy's rifle.

OP-

I use a big adjustable wrench to close down tightly on the feed lip from the back and front and then just bend it closed.

It's not an exact value, guess and check does a pretty good job if you're just doing a few mags for a personal gun.

I have always wondered why no one ever adapted a DBM set up to use BAR magazines. They were cheap, and fit 30-06.

Someone has, LOSOK Customs
My issue with it in a bolt gun is twofold:

Double stack mag that is only 3.3" so you have 2 major issues iwth it in a Mauser type 90* throw action:
1) Short OAL
2) Double stack means that you have to shred the bottom part of a Rem 700 or Savage 10/110 type action to get the mag into the action enough to feed properly.

Bohem, you must have gotten lucky when you got your KK. I have to load mine to 3.320
