I heard the proper pronunciation is not la-POO-uh, it's la-PWAH. I immediately said that has to be wrong, because the former is a masculine sound, while the latter is a ww2 French army rifle that can almost always be found unfired, and only dropped once.

I actually asked a guy I know who's originally from Sweden. He said the correct Finnish pronunciation is Lah-Puah.

English is one of the very few languages with long and short vowels and it makes English speakers sound pretty stupid when they try to pronounce stuff in almost any other language.

I LOL when I hear most people try to pronounce Spanish words.

I've found that non native speakers of all languages tend to butcher pronunciation of other languages, and unless you are just into being a smug, superior asshole, a little humility and humor goes a long way, especially in person. On the internet, not so much probably.
