I want to run a ladder test. How do you keep track of what round went where when the target is 500 yds away?
Its might tough to spot bullet holes at that distance.
Im hinking of setting up video camera, or having a brave buddy prone behind a berm at 300 yds with a spotter scope and a walky-talky.

How have you done it?

Re: ladder test - how do you keep track

get a few different colors of sharpie. write the charge with (lets say) RED and then color the entire tip of that bullet with the red sharpie. When it impacts the paper or cardboard or whatever...the hole will be noticeably RED. If you have 2 or 3 or 5 different colors of marker, it will be VERY easy to know which holes were from what load...as long as you label them correctly from the beginning.
Even if you happen to piggy back a couple shots, you should still be able to narrow down the two shots that they were.

By the way, I'll be testing that ladder test method today and hope I get some good results.

Thanks for these great tips, especially that link to Dan Newberry's page. I going to give that some real consideration.
But - we are in the middle of a heat wave so the Hard Core method is looking pretty attractive too, I haven't had heat stroke in a long time.
