I want to go to the range tomorrow and work up my 168 gr SMK's with the temp being around mid 20's. I will be using Varget as my powder. Do I have to worry about the temp affecting my test. Will I have to work up the load later again in spring when its warm? Thanks everyone in advance for your response. I really don't think it should be a prob but always like that extra confirmation from the folks that have been doing this for years.

varget isnt affected much by temperatures as it is an extreme powder. I would say you are fine as long as you don't work up a smokin hot load in 20 degree weather. I have a pretty stout load for my 308 with varget, and I shoot it year round with no significant changes in accuracy.

You should be gtg. Varget is one of Hodgdon's extreme powders and made to be insensitive to temp changes, well lets say less sensitive.

As stated, if you work up a hot load, it might be a problem in the summer.

Do you shoot a lot at 20 degrees? If you do due serious load development at 20, if you normally shoot that gun at 60, you may want to retest some of the loads developed at 20 just to make sure the sweet spot is the same.

That being said Varget is about as temperature stable as it comes, I shoot Varget in my 6.5 x 47L and 6mm BR and shoot the same load at -10 as I do at 90 with outstanding results. Living in Minnesota allows us to shoot through a full range of temps.
