I have a Real Estate client that gave me about 4 boxes of 308 brass from Lake City Army Amunition Plant that I am necking down for my 260. It says match amunition on it. Has anyone heard of this brass and is it any good? It seems to be in good condition.

what was so unfavorable about it ? I neck down .30 brass down to .260 , but not military stuff.

Re: Lake City Army Amunition

I haven't tried it but I would assume being thick and hard. Great brass to load for .308. If it wasn't so far I'd trade for it.

Edit: I haven't necked down brass, I like the LC Match brass.

Re: Lake City Army Amunition

Good to hear you're having good results with it. I got pressure signs very early, did not measure case capacity, but it was definitely less. Loads that should have done well grouped very poorly. I'm using those casings for fouling shots and for when someone at the range asks to shoot it

Re: Lake City Army Amunition

I have not shot it yet but I am just using this brass for breaking in my rifle unless it ends up grouping good. I am going to be ordering some of the new Lapua 260 brass as soon as I get some extra cash.

Re: Lake City Army Amunition

I take down LC match cases in three stages.

1. FL size in 308 die with no expander after decapping with Lee universal decap die.

2. FL size down to 7/08 with no expander.

3. FL size down to 260 with no expander.

4. Stress relieve neck and shoulders.

5. Try cases in rifle after step 3 to make sure you have sized enough.

Expand neck with Sinclair expanding tool and turn case necks to be .001" to .003" smaller than chamber neck.

LC Match is great brass and if you can for it can be loaded a hundred times assuming your chamber is not jumbo.

Re: Lake City Army Amunition

Thanks for the great info. I shot some of it this past weekend and it seemed to do well. This necking down is new to me so I have a lot to learn.

Re: Lake City Army Amunition

Be sure to check the outside dimensions of the necks...check a fired round and then a loaded round. Be SURE that a .002 differential exists between them...smaller when loaded than when fired. Otherwise...maybe get a KABLOOM!
