Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

Re: Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

If you can inspect the brass with a case gage before purchase that would tell you if it is worth the trouble or not. I have purchased MG fired LC brass in the past and most of the cases would not even fit into my Wilson gage at max HS, I was able to use about 60% of what I bought and the rest were trash.
If you are loading for a gas gun they are good cases to use but not really necessary in a bolt gun, and they have a smaller case capacity so you need to work up your load accordingly.

I would not buy it to use in a bolt gun, especially if it is from Ball ammo (crimped primer pockets). New Winchester brass is a much better choice.

Good luck

Re: Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

I've used it extensively and made some very accurate loads. As a rule(generally) it's once fired and hopefully the necks haven't hardened as much. Sure, Win brass is better, but if you have LC brass, prep it well and shoot it. I don't even have a problem getting my max loads in LC brass even though it has less capacity than most factory brass.

Re: Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

I use it all the time. As stated above pay attention to your brass prep to ensure you are sure of the reliability of the brass. I usually get LC brass that are shot from bolt guns - from military schools. The stuff you get from the M60 can be a little tricky to deal with and it requires extra work in my opinion but it will work.

Re: Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

I bought a 120 cases of LC once at a gun store (part of an estate consignment). Because most of them had primers in them, I loaded them up and fired them. However, since I had no idea how many times they had been fired and resized I decided once was enough. Don't get me wrong. I had no problems but just stuck them in a box and labeled it "unknown firings." I'll save them but have plenty of other brass to load before I'd ever need those. So just make sure you're getting once-fired. If the price is right, it's probably fine.

Re: Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

Most of my 5.56 and 7.62 brass is LC. once fired or demilled pull downs get a dillion super swage for the crimped pockets, Work up your load(same goes for all brass no 2 guns are exactly the same)If you shoot alot the money you save adds up. Nothing says you can't treat yourself to some Fancy high dollar brand new Match grade stuff with the money you save for those days you know you will do everything right. Save the LC for the days you need to blame the case although I asure you they will never admit it!!

Re: Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

i bought a mixed lot. i kept all the LC match stuff. all of the WMR and TW and just LC stuff, everybody said its just so so brass, not worth the effort since the primers are crimped and you have to mess with that and it adds that extra step. anyway, i have about 400 rounds of it and i couldnt sell it last time i posted it. but, if you make it into a necklace and sell it on ebay for $7 you can retire, lol. but if its free, its free. you can get decent stuff here for a good price though, just keep your eyes open

Re: Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

I buy LC brass by the thousands, process it and sell it for much more than I paid and keep a 100 or 2 each so I'm getting free brass for only the cost of a little labor. Plus I make money on the processed stuff, so LC brass keeps me shooting.

Re: Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

I have a coupls hundred Lake City brass I bought once fired, and after cleaning them up and tossing out the bad ones, it shoots fantastic. I also happened into a friend of my Father's that gave me almost 400 rnds of once fired LC Match, all fired from his bolt gun, most of which is the same lot. Its lookin good.

Re: Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

A fellow at my gun club used to sell unfired LC77 cases. After I uniformed the primer pockets, deburred the flash holes, trimmed and deburred inside and out. They shot every bit as good as the brass from Federal GMM ammo that I put through the same proceedure.

Re: Lake City once-fired .308 range brass

I have a crap load of LC brass from shooting Georgia Arms BTHP Match. Once I got the load worked up I find they are more accurate than my Win and PMC brass at the same average velocity. Noticeably so, at all ranges. Not sure why.

I just prep 'em like the rest and down-load them a few grains to keep pressures OK on the thick brass.
