What are the chances that Lapua would ever make brass for the straight 284, or one of the other 7mm. I figured since they make 6.5-284 if there was enough interest we might get them to make straight 284, but what would it take?

I am wanting to start gathering parts to build a new 7mm just not sure which chambering I want to go with and it would be nice if I could run Lapua brass, but they don't make any for 7mm.

Probably pretty slim. While the die body is there in place, there likely is not enough interest considering the 6.5 grain bullets are essentially superior to the 7's. Another reason is that the few people who need it can neck up and neck down to the 6mm and 7 mm level.

Fact is the 7-08 was an easier cartridge on the barrel in a short action, the 7mm rem was more widely chambered for, and the 280 was a better cartridge for a wider variety of weights. The 284 offered up a great platform for wildcatters, and the rebated rim certainly did not help it's path to stardom.

Its been suggested and discussed several times over the past year or so, and ti would be a very easy one for us to do. The problem is, the interest is very small, centering mostly on the F-class shooters. Surprisingly enough, the European market really doesn't show much interest in the 7mm bore size, in any cartridge. Definately more of an American interest. Still, they do pay a lot of attention to the US market, and if there's sufficient demand, then yes, we'd probably do this one. Definately not like doing magnums, where we'd have to develop an entirey new case size that we don't currently produce.

Stay tuned, and we'll see what happens.

In what world is the 6.5 bullet superior to the 7mm? Maybe one without gravity? I shoot both and I have never managed 1 mile hits with a 6.5. With my 284. Yes.

Necking up Lapua 6.5x284 brass is pretty straight forward. You will need to turn necks for sure.

Winchester brass, when you can find it, works as well.

I did use winchester brass, and it is no where near the quality of lapua. Also I would use the 6.5 brass but I don't really like the idea of having to neck up and deal with all that so I just went with the winchester, but there is the problem of finding it. As to the 500,000 pieces part... It never hurts to ask, that is how companies find a market share there always has to be someone who wants something, but how do they know we want something if we don't tell them?
