I mounted a Larue handguard on my AR, but I have a question...

Is there supposed to be a slight gap (1/8 inch), between the the keeper (anti-rotation device) and the upper receiver. I can just see the gas tube in the gap and I feel that I probably didn't get it together tight enough.

thanks

Re: Larue Handguard Installation

Did you mount it yourself, or did you have a smith do it? I don't think there is supposed to be a gap between the keeper and the receiver. To the best of my knowledge, that keeper should fit snug against the receiver. Post a pic if you can.

Yes it should shug up against the receiver. If you are seeing a space in between then it still need to be tightened down more. Here are couple of close ups of how it should look for you. Hope this helps.

I cannot see the gas tube, other than thru the holes in the hand guard. From what you said though, it sounds like you got it right.

If you can see the gas tube through a gap between the upper and the retainer, than you still have an issue. As seen in the previous pictures, everything looks to be installed correctly and there is not as much of a gap like the one you mention.

A gap of 1/32 or less is appropriate.

If you have a greater gap then you may need to remove the gas tube and snug up the barrel nut to the next hole if not more. Then put it all back together and see what you get.

I've done five of these handguards and suggest that if you arent using the proper tools to accomplish this then it would be a good idea to get them or seek help.

Good luck and post a pic if you get a chance.
