LaRue UU kit with Proof Barrel

Has anyone tried to swap a Proof carbon barrel into a LaRue UU kit, specifically 260 rem? I researched the shit out of it and haven't gotten a straight answer. It seems that people have successfully done it with the PredatOBR but haven't heard of anyone doing it with the UU kits. I'm worried about it not fitting the ID of the handguard and the headspace.
 
It will fit as the barrel extension is essentially the same and the hand guard fits around that. There is plenty of room under the hand guard for a pretty heavy barrel taper.
Just know you will probably have to use a different bolt and possibly a carrier to go with it. Most people who swap to different barrels have to use a different bolt to get them cycling and feeding correctly.

I can look at my UU kit and my buddies predatOBR ifyou need more help.

I'd send a LaRue bolt to have head space set to that bolt so you can run one BCG. LaRue bolts I have are smaller FP so would work well for a 260 build.
Measure the ID of the receiver for barrel extension, pass that information on to whoever is doing the chamber job for Proof barrel.
There isn't a mil spec for -10s.
You'll want to make sure the OD of the barrel extension is compatible with the ID of the receiver.
 
Proof Research barrels are set up to run with JP bolts as their benchmark. I'd strongly suggest getting yourself a JP High Pressure Bolt along with appropriate firing pin from JP for your .260 Remington application.

I've built up multiple custom big block AR's with Proof CFW barrels and the JP High Pressure Bolts. Never one single hiccup.

All out at the moment, with more of both on order. They don't stay here very long.

I can say they'e on the larger size, which is I feel a positive. Heat always needs to be applied to the upper receiver to install a Proof barrel, in my experience.

To answer your question:

A 7 pound even dry weight .308 built around a Proof Research 16" CFW barrel with intermediate length gas system, JP LMOS bolt carrier with high pressure bolt, SLR adjustable gas block, and V Seven titanium Furion brake. All housed inside the new Battle Arms Development billet 7.62 receiver set with matching 15" forend. LaRue MBT trigger, Vltor lower receiver extension, Heavy Buffers recoil spring, and normal H2 buffer round out the innards. All small parts in titanium from V Seven. MFT stock works amazingly well and weighs next to nothing. Great glass in the form of the Kahles K16i, riding in the bulletproof Spuhr SP-3026 mount. Recoil is amazingly light, plus accuracy is quite acceptable, especially considering the rifle's 7 pound weight.
 
How about swapping a 6.5cm proof CF into a .308 Seekins SP10?

Do I need to buy a bolt or do anything ?


Do you guys lap the receiver or use loctite or anything? I had a decent smith put a WOA Douglas into a AERO mono upper and he just put a little loctite on the end of the barrel and tightened the nut by hand and that was it. Thought there was more to it for a accurate build?

I don't know about the Proof to Seekins. But you should be fine if the Seekins will take a DPMS barrel extension.

I have gathered that installing a quality barrel on a quality upper all you need to do install the barrel and use some moly grease on the barrel nut threads and torque it to 30-40 lb-ft.

BTW how the hell is that guy a gunsmith and installing AR barrels hand tight??

He runs a company that makes super accurate ARs and now bolt actions.

Idk. He just put a ratchet on it. Yanked on it and called it good
 
I have installed a proof barrel into a Seekins platform upper with no issues. It is head spaced to a JP high pressure bolt and variable weight carrier. The gas block is a SLR adjustable. It’s a 6.5 creed and shoots very well.

30 to 40 foot pounds is barely the minimum that I would do with an AR-15!! Usually 50-6o foot pounds is where you want to be when installing an AR-15 barrel and closer to 70 with a large frame AR.

Seating the barrel properly whether it requires heat or a bonding agent is a critical step along with seasoning the barrel nut and receiver threads.

Who do you recommend for barre installs?
