I looked in the search, but couldn't find a write up on the functionality, & durability of the Lasermax mounted in the guide rod in a 1911A1. Anyone have any 1st hand experience with one?

I am the range officer for my department. I have seen two Laser Max on the range. One was on a glock and the other a 1911. Neither was reliable. The glock broke the switching piece and didn't work at all. The 1911 would not stay on.

As stated, the LM makes your pistol less dependable...

    I like my CTs:

I used a laser-max guide rod laser in my duty Glock 22 and never had any problems w/ it. As I have stated in other threads, it has saved me from firing rounds and even stopped foot pursuits. Once you hit the bad guy w/ the laser and he sees it they stop and comply. Something phsycological about it.

Additionally, the guide rod on a Glock only keeps the recoil spring captive. If it breaks then the weapon will contiune to function. Check out this youtube video(s) of a 1000rd. torture test of a Glock 19. in about 15 mins. The guide rod melts towards the end of the second video (I believe) and the weapon still funtions after the guide rod has fell out of the weapon. So, if the laser-max even breaks in half then the weapon should still funtion.

Also, my father has a Glock 19 that we have abused the hell out of. A while back the take down relase fell out because the retention spring that holds it in place broke, evidently. We didn't even notice it until after we had fired several hundred rounds through it and then while we began disassymbleing it then we noticed it was broken. Even then it funtioned 100%. To break it down for cleaning all you had to do was ensure the weapon was clear and just pull the trigger and the slide came right off.

    .
Agree with the unreliablity, some guys i work with used'm and liked them. BUT im not one for digging equipment I've used that breaks. (The work versions were sig 220s)
    .
The one I witnessed (Laser Max) didnt break BUT it didn't function as it should. This was in GLOCK 19 which NEVER had a problem with function. I'd definitely go with the Crimson Trace instead...easy to adjust and doesnt change internals. Also Crimson does deals on occaision where they offer "batteries for life', ask about it when you get it or call an ask crimson themself.
