Latest M40A5 configuration

Was listing to two guys argue over the USMC configuration for the A5s. One comes that they are re barreling them a 20 inch 1-10. The other said they are not going to do that. I thought I read here that was true. I can't find the thread that stated that.

i think the new productions of the platform is a 1:10 i doubt they re-barrel all of them with the government they just buy all new and waist the $$

Since the Marines build the rifles in house, I'm thinking rebarreling is within the realm of possibility, and probably SOP in regards to service life. Hell even the Army is reusing and rebarreling the actions Remington deems serviceable to 300WM.
I'm no cheerleader for the gov, and know they waste allot, but somethings they do right.

No we are not re-barreling with 20 inch 1-10. All current builds are still 24 inch 1-12

If I understand correctly the 20" 1-10" is something the Marine Corp is looking at for the future, and they have/are experimented with but it's not standard procedure at this time. And with military spending cuts it may be a while before it happens.

We may have experimented with it in the past but we won't be going that way any time soon.

Brown87, since your on the inside loop up there. Do you have any experience with the 20" barreled rifles i.e. what was the accuracy like compaired to the 25" barrel and different twist, what did the end user think of the shorter barrel etc. And just to get it clear in my head when you guys at Quantico say 20 or 24" barrel is that from the recoil lug or end to end of the barrel? Thanks for any light you can shine on my questions.

Sorry its taken so long to reply, I was not there when they were doing all the testing of the different barrel lengths but from what I was told they basically took a barrel (can't remember the initial length) and tested the accuracy, took a 1/2 inch off tested again, took a 1/2 inch off tested again, etc, etc. until they found which length had the best grouping and went with that.
I am not sure what kind of handling the users had with the weapon. And we measure end to end.

The 20" barreled gun in reference may be the XM3 the IBA DARPA gun. I havent seen any since Iraq '09.
