What can you guys tell me about Lawton actions? They look like very nice actions and hell for stout. Just wondered how many are using them and like or dislike them?

Stay away from them... if you order it, you might never see it. Or it will show up with rust on it.

Yeah man, steer clear of them, why not go with a Surgeon or a Stiller? Much better quality and customer service IMO.

I have a Lawton action on it's way back to them. The actions are built solid but I'm not at all happy with the machine work. This will be the second time it has gone back to Lawton. The first time was due to the bolt being machined incorrectly and now it is an issue with the magazine well that is causing a feeding problem. And all this is after I spent over two years waiting on this rifle. My suggestion is look elsewhere.

I have a Lawton. I ordered it when Barney was still alive. There was a mix up when I ordered the action. I ordered a 7000SA single shot. I was told a 3-4 month wait. Well after 4 months went buy I called them up. A woman proceded to tell me that they couldnt do a 7000 in a single shot? Well they had to build it for me cause I already ordered the stock from Mcmillan and it was inletted for the 7000 so about 3 months later it finally showed up. Action was nice, no rust, and everything went together nicely. Im happy with it.

The Lawton action itself, are nice and built well. If someone had one on hand, in front of me at the right price I would buy another. However the issues are if you have to order one from them. You may never see it. Its too bad they were a good company several years ago.

There has seem to be some manufacturing issues recently, but I had a Lawton 7000 barreled action and a 7000 bare action that I was going to do a build on. The machine work on both of them were terrific and they are built like very stout with a small window cut into it verses the large one cut into the standard Rem 700. The only reason I don't have them any more is because I picked up a Sako TRG, and my future plans will be with the TRG platform.
