A few have asked for a LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover. I thought I might see how many of you were interested and if it was worth doing a Group Buy for them?

Here is what I had in mind..

It would be the same size as the Sniper's Hide Hitch Cover, so for reference.

Let me know what you think!

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

I like the round, but why does it say mil-dot? anyone with half a brain knows what it is. I don't think anyone owns a copyright on the generic mil-dot design? It's not like it's one of the proprietary reticles from some high-end makers.

If you'll ditch the words, I'd be in for a round one.

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

I thought it needed something there...looks pretty plain without the words, but maybe plain is ok for something like this. It may also keep people with less than half a brain from asking you what it is all the time too

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

i'm not opposed to words, I just like them to be significant. I have these on the side windows of my crew cab, in white vinyl:

feel free to borrow any variation thereof if you like.

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

I really like that! Gives it a little more "edginess". I would be down to get one with the greek lettering. I think it will go nicely parked next to my illuminated punisher hitch cover!

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

+1 on round and I really like the Greek lettering as well. I'd be in for one of those! Would also match my decal. A friend bought one of the punisher hitch covers and it looks really sharp! I think he or I brought that up then and I may have even sent you a pm on it.

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

I think 6" is about the smallest I can make these. I need room for the LED and wiring as well as the bolts and bolt holes that hold everything together. Please remember these are cut not engraved so we need a little more room for things. If you like the greek lettering I propose I get a few different decals made up and let you choose which one you like when you order. The mildot will be lit and cut through the front plate if you choose the LED option.

That reticle would be a good template to use. Make a light compartment using the necessary amount of LEDs, the cover can be a piece of stampted or milled aluminium with that reticle milled out. Use a piece of clear plastic to seal it in. Green LEDs would give it the traditional illuminated reticle look. 3x3 square or 4in circle is about as big as I would go. But if you go bigger, include the hardware so the cowboys can use it as a belt buckle.

J/K to the cowboys.

Yep, pretty lame. Perhaps an attempt at compensation for lack of something else.

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

Wow, I leave for a day of hunting and come back to thread shitting. I guess that'll teach me.

I'm not usually one to point fingers but it seems to me that there's only one person in this entire thread who used the words; "gay", "queer" and "compensating". All in three consecutive posts too. The old idiom of a "fox smells his own hole first" comes to mind.

I see that you've served and for that I say thank you. If you really drive a truck I also thank you for hauling the goods that make America possible, but as for this thread I ask that you find the door. I think you've done enough trolling and side tracking for one day.

Back to our regularly scheduled program...
Ok I get it, words are gone.

The mildot version @ 6" is drawn perfectly to scale. The only thing I had to do was increase the stadia line thickness. The LED's I am using are right around 4" long not including the stem. I don't think going any smaller is going to be possible without finding another LED source. I'm not sure going from 6" to 5" is really going to make that much of a difference to be worth switching everything around?

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

You confused me for a soldier!

I stand corrected, I'll take one!

Only if you call it Tactical trailer hitch cover though

I suddenly feel the need to advertise my love of guns, apple pie and the american way all over my domestically built 4 wheeler!

Though I'm a bit concerned it will take away from the numerous military, leo, and NRA stickers already on the back window and tailgate.

Decisions decisions

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

Mac - There are basically two different common sizes for hitch covers; the 2"x2" and the 1-1/4"x1-1/4". I doubt that many guys own a 2-1/2"x2-1/2".

If there is enough interest to get these rolling we can do a few for the smaller hitch.

The next question is...Would you rather have these be constantly on or intermittent ie., come on with the turn signals, hazards brakes, etc.?

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

I would be in for one made like the pic BCW1284 posted. Would match the sticker I have on my Tacoma. That is as long as the price wasn't out of line.

Still sporting my punisher cover and love it. Lots of compliments.

Re: LED Mil-Dot Hitch Cover?

Oh man... I see all sorts of possibilities for what people could do as far as inserting your favorite "target" via a vinyl lay over then cutting the reticule out...
