I was wondering if this is accurate it looks kind of sloppy but that dont mean nothing. Do any of you all have this powder scale it comes with LEE challenger kit i like everyhting else. Let me know is this thing accurate enough. I reload .270, and .338federal for hunting. .308 for benchshooting!!

Re: Lee safety powder scale?

I'm fairly new to reloaidng myself and I use the Lee safety scale as well. I took the scale over to a family friends house who is a very successful bench shooter. I compared the Lee scale to his Acculab scale that measures to .01 grains. It was spot on, down to .1 grains at least. Use with confidense. I think Lee products get a bad rap because they are so much less expensive than the rest. Just my opinion.

Re: Lee safety powder scale?

I've loaded some super accurate bullets with that scale. I use a RCBS chargmaster and a Harrels powder thrower now. The only draw back is the time it takes to use the scale. (and the getting over the fact everything is so cheaply made) But it works very well for hundreds of dollars less!!!

I think the more important tool would be a chronograph to see the actual results of your loads. If your velocities are are within 20fps (of course less would be better) of each other you will know the scale and lee powder thrower are actually doing a decent job. That will be the best indicator of the accuracy potential of your reloads. Of course there are other contributing factors like brass prep/uniforming flash hole deburring blah blah blah. But the chronograph will give you the numbers to let you know where your reloads stand from a shot to shot consistency.

For instance If you have 75fps variation from one shot to the next you'll know you need to do some more work somewhere in the reloading process. It all depends on what your happy with as far as the accuracy of your bullets. If you want holes touching each other it'll take some work. Much information and great reloading techniques described here on this site.

Yeah for the money it is hard beat the Lee reloading tools. I use 3 different presses made by them and I'm happy with the results. I use the powder thrower for .45 reloading It's hard to reset the charge volume so I leave it set for one charge and use the Harrels for rifle reloading it's much easier to change charge levels with it very precise clicks and very repeatable. I can go from 23.5 grs to 41.5 grains in a couple seconds. In my opinion this is the only shortcoming of the Lee scale and powder thrower it takes a little more mokeying around to get it set up but once you do its good.

Re: Lee safety powder scale?

I had one but went to a digital year's ago.
It crapped out one day so I went back to the LEE scale just for Aa little while.
That was 7 year's ago and I'm still using the Lee scale.
