I searched around here, but couldn't find much info on properly working a righty bolt action as a lefty. are there any threads you guys can guide me to for me to look over?

also if anyone knows, in sniper school in the army (or marines I guess) do lefty shooters get lefty rifles, or they use righty?

I know in infantry, it doesn't matter if you're a lefty or righty. I actually use the M4 very effectively as a lefty.

thanks!

lonely in here huh? we have plenty of lefties here. i hear people say shooting lefty on a righty lets them keep a hand in position on the trigger and work the bolt with the right hand and they say that is an advantage. the other question others will have to answer. i have only read books and seen photos. all those showed right handed rifles, but that may just mean no one lefty was in that class. i wont say one way or the other though.

Re: Lefty in the righty world...

I am left handed and shoot right handed bolt guns... I actually like it and do not own a left handed bolt. Now the right handed model feels "normal". The key is getting a stock such as Mcmillan or HS precision (others too) that has a ...."turn down" grip. I really dont know what to call it but the grip on these stocks allow your thumb to ride low enough for the bolt to clear when cycling.
Good luck

Re: Lefty in the righty world...

I do most things left handed. However, I'm right-eye dominant so I transitioned from lefty to mostly righty when it comes to shooting. It was an easy transition. Much easier than anything else I tried to do right handed... Throwing, batting, golf, tennis, basketball, etc. I shot left handed all my life until I was in the Corps and an instructor noticed I shot pistols with my left hand and right eye (they called it Cross-eye dominant). Now I can shoot equally with either hand... Pistols or rifles. Not braggin'... just feel lucky!
