I've been looking through gunbroker, gunsamerica, Savage's website and I can't seem to find out if the Stevens 200's are offered in a lefty configuration.

I'm trying to piece together a budget build hunting rifle and I was thinking about the 200 as the action to start from for a low annual round count, hunting stick in 7-08, I was hoping to avoid buying a $400 donor action and going to the Stevens 200 but I'm not going to sink time, money and a good barrel into a RH action.

TIA, I'm sure this is something that you can find via Google but I've not been able to locate it in the past hour.

Re: Lefty Stevens 200?

if you go here and click left / right hand you can check left. that will show you only the left handed savage models
http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/finder/

i didn't see a left handed stevens 200 listed, but there is a lefty "axis" which was named the "edge" last year, in 7-08.

i have a stevens 200 rightie that i shoot leftie that i was going to "build" also, turns out it shoots well enough out to 550 yards out of the box for the $325.00 that i didn't have to build it other than the usual stuff: trigger, knob, optic, moa 1 piece base, and a brake just for the hell of it.

Re: Lefty Stevens 200?

No they don't come in lefty. You can usually find a lefty action in the old 110 model which basically is a stevens 200. Avoid the edge unless you don't want to modify anything. There is no aftermarket for them because alot of the design approaches they use aren't good for long range shooting.

Good luck,
Merritt

Re: Lefty Stevens 200?

Is the "axis" or "edge" the same receiver as the 200? I would namely like to get a rifle that is:

Appx 20-22" tube in 7-08, 9 twist, light contour
Trigger in the 2.5-4lb range
Internal blind mag (hunting rifle, remember)
1 Pc base
Lightweight Hunting scope (like a Conquest, good light gathering and some sort of illuminated reticle)
Manners or McM lightweight stock
Couple sling studs
Stock pack.

I know it's not going to be a sub $1k rifle with everything but I also don't want it to be a $2000 rifle package

Re: Lefty Stevens 200?

A 4lb trigger would be acceptable for what I'd like to do with the rifle, thank you for the links.

The barrel contour is heavier than I'd like but that's a good start. I plan on just buying a blank and fitting it myself anyway so I'll probably skip that link, but the action is exactly what I needed, thanks a bunch!

I have an idea on the scope, but that's less important at this juncture than getting the rifle moving along. I'll have to be saving for the glass through the spring time anyway.
