I know I'm late to the party, but I bought my Leica Amplus 6 3-18x44i for a hunting build. It is an absolute stunning optic all around. Between the glass, mechanics, size, and weight Leica did very well. I also researched /considered the Trijicon, Leupold vx5 and 6, and briefly the Meopta offerings but the Leica Amplus 6 won out.
I've have found few things that irk me:
1) It's second focal plane. I knew that buying it, and I'm trying to use it and learn to like it. I am NOT a hunter but sfp made more sense to me for a hunting build over ffp. This has more to do with me and my opinion not the optic itself.
2) In the scopes literature nor on the optic, is the magnification (power) to reticle subtentions isn't clearly stated anywhere I can find. I know I CAN figure this out but I shouldn't HAVE to. My old Bushnell elite 4200 had this in the early 2000s. It should be the norm for ANY and ALL scope manufacturers to mark or signify what magnification is correct in relation to the reticle in sfp optics.
3) the illumination. The only part of the reticle that is illuminated is a .125moa dot in the center of the reticle and it's definitely not daylight bright. But this is less of an "irk" than it is something a potential buyer should be made aware of.
4) Parallax knob tension. Every other control on this optic is stellar. The turret and knob tension is spot on and/or tactile. The Parallax knob is a bit too stiff on my example and I'd like to see it with less tension.
Hopefully my opinions and gripes don't sway anyone away from this scope. Overall, the glass is superb and it's incredibly easy to get behind. The tracking has been perfect. I've dialed it out to 500 and back and it returned to zero without issue.
My plan is to have a custom turret made once the optic proves itself and I decide if it's staying on this rifle or my new lightweight build. I have seen the Leupold CDS in action and I think from a hunting standpoint a custom turret is the ticket.
I will try to put this scope next to my friends vx6hd (4-24) and compare them at distance this weekend. I will report back here with an edit after doing an optical performance comparison.
