FYI - www.Cameralandny.com
Guys, Long Range Hunting is one of the many forums I belong. Camera land is a regular sponsor there and I got an email from them earlier this week. Leica is giving a $500 credit towards the purchase of a new rifle scope when you trade in any operable scope. I traded in an old weatherby 2.75 from the 60's and got $500 off a brand new Leica ER 4.5-14X42 with a ballistic reticle. Camera Land knocked of 10% as an LEO discount before taking off the $500. Regular cost would have been $1999 and I got it for $1299 shipped. Camera Land is also knocking $400 off any Demo Leicas they have in stock. I just thought I'd share this with you folks in case anyone is interested. They're expensive but thats 35% off and the 3.5-10X42 would be even an greater percentage off.

Re: Leica Scope Deals

Doug posts here, and this has been posted.

I have never even seen a Leica scope and dont really understand their lack of apparent popularity. Unless they released some poor product of which I am not aware, I just dont get it.

I dont need a hunting optic, or I would try one of these myself. Seems like a great deal if these are on par with the LEica binos I have owned, as well as the new LRF 1600 I am currently trying out.

Re: Leica Scope Deals

I suspect Leica may have hurt its own popularity in the riflescope market with the first scopes they had a few years ago. They were great scopes but to mitigate the cost they were manufactured in Germany but assembled here by Leupold. I suspect a lot of people were reluctant to pay big $ when they felt they were really only getting a Leupold.

I believe they are trying to correct that perception now with the new line of scopes which are completely German, start to finish. Of course they are priced accordingly. I think the trade in deal is to get the scopes out into the hands of shooters and start getting word of mouth and exposure on the US scene. I have several Swarovskis, Kahles, one Schmidt Bender, a all German Zeiss and one of the US assembled Zeiss Conquests. I'll be honest with you, doing a rough comparison with the new Leica I just got, its as good or better than the Swaros, S&B and Zeiss Diavari. The Diavari is the closest in image quality and the Leica blows away the Conquest. Thats not to disparage the Conquest which is a great piece of glass its just that the Leica is really that good. The only caveat I'd mention is I find the Leica ballistic reticle to be very fine. I would prefer it to be slightly thicker to pick it up better in brush. My next one will probably be the #1 German post type.

Re: Leica Scope Deals

Thanks for the info. I had one of the Leica scopes a few years ago, and I was not overly impressed with its optics. Also, the reticle was too thin, in my opinion, for use in dim light or heavy brush. I am glad to hear that the glass is so much better in the new ones, and, if I buy one, I will be ordering the #1 German post reticle too, unless they also offer the #4E reticle.
