Re: LET IT BE KNOWN. . .
Giant scale Formula RC planes.
Go fast turn left with a 3rd dimension added.
This is a Sundowner with an 80" wing. 2.1cid Moki engine from the Chech Republic. Stock the engine is a brute. Now it's just psychotic. Last summer I burned up 3 of them while exploring just go carried away a guy can get. It turned a 16x16 prop at 7200rpm on 15% nitro. I've fussed with the port timing now to the point that the damn thing barely runs, but once it lights just get the hell away from it.
Babies cry, mother's run in circles and dark clouds form in the heavens.
It's now running 60% nitro.
Your eyes water up just standing next to it.
The original class has been eliminated so this is now my "lab rat". The big crack pipe next to it is a tuned exhaust. I've modeled it and plan on whipping up a bladder mold so that I can try my hand at making an identical pipe in carbon. Hopefully it'll keep the heat down so that I can run it inside the fuse. Save some weight and pick up some mph from less drag on the outside.
To put it in perspective, this engine consumed around 3.5 ounces per minute of 15% nitro/methanol. Now it's eating almost 6.5 ounce per minute on 60%. These little bitches are just like top fuel cars. Your fuel consumption is your barometer for top speed.
The old airframe met its demise when the wingspar failed. That one was good for around 155mph (ground speed) I'm hoping to dip into the mid 160's with this one.
Once this project is finished it's onto the "big brother". My full effort Formula One Pro Kelly. 43% scale, 80cc billet nitro twin engine, and one hell of a long runway.
Here's the engine still unfinished. Hoping to get around 225mph (actual) with this one.
Woo Hoo!
