Looking at these 2 optics for a Bushmaster ACR. Hear great things about the M4 and Aimpoints in general, but have heard very little about the Leupold.

I like the idea of the aiming circle and 1-3 power on the Leupold, but it is heavier and not sure about eye relief and field of view.

Any thoughts?

Re: Leupold CQ/T or Aimpoint M4

The Leupold is not a good CQB optic. It's heavy, has a high center of gravity that throws your weapon off balance, and it's not a true 1x. I've used it, and while it's a decent optic, It's a relic by today's standards. A 1-4x scope is a better way to go. Check out the Trijicon TR24R or TR24G 1-4x24mm instead of the Leupold CQT.
I do love Aimpoints, and the M4 is the best so far for the full-size models. Really hard to beat an optic that rugged with such a long battery life.

Re: Leupold CQ/T or Aimpoint M4

I found the Leupold CQ/B to work just fine in my last tour in Iraq. I have also used and owned a couple of Aimpoints and find them to work quite well also. I have a 1-4 Millet that works ok too. 1-4x scopes have come a long way in the last couple of years since I have bought and used all of the above. They will all work, but I wouldn't limit your options to one or the other. Check out the newer 1-4x scopes as well as the 1.5-5x scopes on the market today and then narrow it down from there. Just remember, all of the above scopes are not necessarily going to give you pin point accuracy at long ranges. They are good for shooting at man sized targets, but you will struggle with prairie dog sized targets.

Aimpoint with a 3x magnifier would be better than the Luepold and to not bash, out of their product line the mark 4 1-3x is one of the better ones. I would go with a 1-4x if it was me.
Look at the vortex line along with the burris XTR series. Both would work great. If you wish to save some cash the millet DMS is hard to beat for the money.

I run an Aimpoint M4 with a 3x Aimpoint magnifier on their twist mount. I am very happy with the set up and would not hesitate to recommend an Aimpoint M4 to anyone. They are dependable and built solid. The battery life on the M4s is exceptionally long lasting.

Re: Leupold CQ/T or Aimpoint M4

I've owned an Aimpoint for years and have played with the Leupold and I would say neither. Some of the new 1-4 optics are so much more versatile than either of the above. I just tested the SWFA 1-4 HD against an Aimpoint and it kept up with it under 50 yards and beat it at distance. Functionally it is like having a red dot when needed and switching to a mildot with mil adjustments at distance. I made submoa groups at 500 yards, near moa groups at 700 yards and 80% hits on steel at 800 yards. The Aimpoint and Leupold just won't do that.
