I am looking into getting the 12x model. I searched for reviews online and didn't come up with much so I figured I'd post here. Anyone have one of these and do you like it? track good? clear crisp glass? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Nick

Re: Leupold FX-3

I use a FX-III 12x on my moving target and field target competition rifle. I'm very satisfied with the scope. The events I shoot has a weight limit on the rifle and the main advantage of the fixed 12X is leight weight. Every gram I can save at the middle and rear end of the rifle I put on the muzzle to score more points in shooting competitions offhand.

Tracking on my FX-III is good. Shooting moving target I actually adjust 20moa "down" to score in the X-ring while using the eye on the deer target as an aimimg point. Using the same rifle for field target I go back to zero and use normal "up" elevation for relatively long range shooting. Glass is more than good enough for it's intended use.

I have the Leupold dot in my scopes. Most people score better with a dot than crosshairs and mildots in "dynamic" shooting events like MS, mooving target and other off hand shooting events.

I'm now building a new rifle for next year based on a Sauer 202 alloy action with QC SSG3000/STR heavy matchbarrels in 308 and 6.5x55. The rifle will be scoped with a new FX-3 12x target Leupold dot. I want this rifle to handle like a 20ga Perazzi shotgun compared to the regular tactical 4ga punt guns :)

Re: Leupold FX-3

They're decent scopes. They look to be a continuation of the M8 scopes they made for years. If you don't have anything against gloss finished scopes look for a used, 12X leupold M8 on ebay and elsewhere.

I used an M8 6X for years on a hunting rifle and was never unhappy with it.

Re: Leupold FX-3

I have had one for years and now passed it on to my daughters. It tracks true after many years and the glass is still superb. If you find an old used. Leupold will retrofit any reticle they have in it. I contacted Customer service and verified that.
