I'm interested in a new spotting scope and would prefer one with a Mil reticule..

At the moment, the "standard" in the class seems to the Leupold Mark 4...

Apart from the reticule, how does it differ from the same size Goldring??? As a tactical scope is it built tougher? Better optics? I am just trying work out what justifies the extra $500 price tag over the Goldring besides the reticule.

Also, how do the optics in the Mk4 compare to say a Swaro ATS 65 (none HD)or similar spec'd Kowa's, Pentax ect???

I'm looking for a new scope for long range shooting, and while a Mil reticule would be good, I am wondering if by buying the Mk4 I would be giving up much, if any, optical clarity to get it..

I would like to spot bullet holes as far out as reasonably possible with a scope in the 60mm opjective class...

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Take a look at the Bushnell Excursion with mildot. For around $350 it works. I understand its a clone on the Loopy but those who know more may say otherwise. Little blurry around the edges on high power.

Its not a Swaro, not even close to optics HD or otherwise, never looked through a Kowa.

Bullet holes, I can spot 308 holes at 400 yards with my 1978 Bushnell Trophy 15-36x spotting scope. Its quite easy with Shoot N C target and with good air and a straining eye, can make out 308 holes in cardboard.

Cheers for that..

I have considered the Bushnell Excursion, but having read a few posts on here, there seems to be a question mark over its reliability; maybe some of those that have the Bushnell Excursion (65mm) will chime in with their opinions/experiences....

The major downside of the Leupold is that its "not for export" (I'm in the UK) although I'm sure I could get one if I really tried..

Meopta do an eyepiece that with a reticule that fits their draw scope, its only a pity its not compatible with any other brand..

Of course if my numbers comeup in the Lottery, I'll just buy a Zeiss Spotter 60 and be done with it!

Thanks again for the response...

Peter
