I have a Leupold MK4 mounted on a LRB M25 with ARMS low throw lever rings. The elevation is at the bottom limit and is still 1 minute (inch) high at 100 yards. Is there anything I can do to correct this???

Thank you in advance for your help.

Have you tried switching the rings? As in, swapping the front ring with the back ring? The scope must be on a cant to cause your problem, the ring swap may not be the optimum answer as in, it may then decrease the elevation available but would likely make it shootable.

Re: Leupold MK4 elevation bottomed still 1 min high

We ran into a similar problem on a buddy's FN recently. He was running a Mark 4 fixed 10x with M3 knobs on the factory 20 MOA base, we couldn't get it any closer than 1.5" high at 100 yards. He ultimately just shot it like it was, as he didn't want to change the rings.

Re: Leupold MK4 elevation bottomed still 1 min high

How would switching the rings affect that?? Would you be looking for a variation in tolerances to change the angle to a small degree??

Might want to try a COMPLETELY different ring... I have had similar issues with ARMS rings... moved to a different set (NOT ARMS)and it seemed to be ok with zeroing....

I think the scope was a Nikon... Its been a while... but I remember the rings very well...

If you have a different set of rings... give it a shot... its worth trying to see...

Matt.

Chances are one ring is sitting higher than the other (due to tolerance issues). Switching them out may reverse the situation.

Call Lou at LRB I am sure he will have the proper solution. It is not good to have your scope bottomed out, you will get all kinds of crazy impact shift. In addtition you are out of the optical sweet spot of the scope. I would call Lou, and if that did not work try different rings. (at that point you may have to use the buris rings with offset bushing inserts to correct for the mounts forward cant.)

What scope are you using?

Re: Leupold MK4 elevation bottomed still 1 min high

Imho the cleanest solution would be to switch to Burris Zee rings and buy the canting inserts. But, if you don't want to spend the $$, it is possible to shim the rear of your base before reattaching it - not the best long term solution but it works. Good luck!

Re: Leupold MK4 elevation bottomed still 1 min high

The base is built into the receiver so shimming is not possible. But the ARMS throw lever detaches from the ring and it's riser. So would removing a little material from that achieve the same results??? And if so would you remove it from the front or rear ring??

Re: Leupold MK4 elevation bottomed still 1 min high

OK I looked at your receiver and understand your problem. I would not remove material from the rings/ ring assembly - but why don't you build up a little polymer insert using material from tap plastics (or some other store like that), equivalent to the Zee rings? To be able to allow more elevation, you need to get the scope to point lower so that the rifle we shoot higher, so you need to elevate the rear ring and/or lower the front ring. The issue with this would be:
- the ARMS throw lever concept is really cool because it does not lose zero; with an insert you almost certainly lose that capability
- the material you choose must have long term stability under stress, it should not be able to flatten with time, so material choice is critical.

An alternative possibility would be to very lightly metal-shim the rear ring, using adhesive between the shim and the ring that can be taken out with a solvent (avoid epoxy, and water-based solvents obviously). I have never done that. I am not sure how well it would work in terms of ring stability - it would have to be done very well and carefully.

Did you try swapping the rings as somebody was suggesting earlier? This might be the quickest way out of this...

Re: Leupold MK4 elevation bottomed still 1 min high

Montana: I believe he does not want to spend the money for a pair of extra rings - he is trying to make his existing setup work.

Re: Leupold MK4 elevation bottomed still 1 min hig

I just bought the arms rings Saturday so I could return them if need be. A M14 is great with open sights so the quick release and return to zero is appealing . The way it is setup when mounted the locking lever point together, if I switch them when mounted they would point to the front and rear, that just seems to be something else to catch on brush or anything else...

Re: Leupold MK4 elevation bottomed still 1 min hig

The arms ring is a two piece design, the ring is attached to the locking mechanism with an Allen . So I could shim it. Since it is shooting high and I can not get it down would I raise the front of the scope by shimming the front ring? It's shooting 1.25 inches high at 100 how much should it get shimmed??

Re: Leupold MK4 elevation bottomed still 1 min hig

Do you have the standard flat, short rail that comes with the receiver or the extended 20MOA rail that LRB sells as an accessory ? The Leupold 10x M3 scope needs to go on a flat rail. If you mount it on a 10 or 20 MOA rail, what you are experiencing is normal.

Re: Leupold MK4 elevation bottomed still 1 min hig

Dead stock, flat if that is the way they are delivered.... I only say that because I bought stock M25 receivers.
