Are the leupold mk4-m3 fixed power scopes a great durable scope and are they crisp & clear when compared to other brands in the same class?

Does the BDC really work?

Re: Leupold Mk4-M3

I own three mk4 m3's

Durable yes, very

Crisp and clear compared, to my eyes yes

Does the bdc work, that's a tricky one and gonna get a lot of no's I'd suspect, BUT I had a knob made for 118lr for one of mine and out of my gap m24 shooting that specific load it has been dead on from 100-1,000 shooting in Missouri and then also traveling and shooting in all army long range championships at fort benning Georgia, I haven't shot it other than those two locations (talkin altitude and da)

Re: Leupold Mk4-M3

It is the only Lupy I'd consider owning. Its biggest drawback is the knobs and reticle are not in the same format - mil ret/MOA knobs.

You can have an EREK equipped matching reticle and knobs USO ST-10 for similar money. Went this route over the scope you are asking about a while back.

One of its (Lupy Mk 4 M3) attributes is long and correctly advertised eye relief. It will also hold up to a 50. Two attributes that make it a good 50 cal scope.

BDCs are a compromise. Will they keep you on an E silhouette under most circumstances? Yes. Don't be surprised when you get misses on smaller targets at greater distances though.

Re: Leupold Mk4-M3

M3 knobs are fast and the factory BDC is close enough for shooting minute of man with 168 gr FGMM or M118LR (depending on which BDC yours came with).

There are several places that will make custom knobs using your data or generic info (caliber, barrel length, etc).

I had an older Mark 4 with M3 knobs that served me well for years, but as I've gotten more interested in shooting smaller groups, I switched over to 1/4 MOA adjustment
