Leupold SX-1 Ventana spotting scope replacement? $1200 budget.

I currently have an older spotting scope which I believe to be a Leupold SX-1 Ventana and I am looking at upgrading to something with better clarity had higher magnification. Unfortunately, I do not have any stores near me that carry any medium to high-end spotting scopes that I can try out so I am seeking some input. My budget is $1200 max.
One option I am considering is Vortex Razor HD 27-60 x 85 and since Vortex offers such an awesome mil discount I am able to afford it.
Will the Razor be a huge improvement over the SX-1?
Anything out there that will outperform the Razor for $1200 or less?

I'm currently on the same mission. So far I've read the Athlon Ares with ed glass is pretty comparable to the razor. As far as something less than 1200 I don't know if anything is going to actually be better than the razor.
