Has anyone on here played with this device yet? I was thinking about picking one up as a scanner so I don't have to sling my rifle around, and so far from my research there is nothing with a 320 core and 30 Hz refresh rate that I can get for around $1k. What do you guys think?

I tried to find out what core they are using in these ... the older ones all used various "lepton" cores ... which are almost like "teenage science project" grade cores ... to give you an idea, the whole SDK is about $300 ... as a first core to practice writing interface software and hooking up a display, etc. they are fine ... but I don't think the leptons were intended for anything serious. Now, the new lepton 3s are undoubtably better than the 2s which are better than the ones ... and the box of Torrey Pines lepton units I tried a couple of years ago were lepton 1s ... so these are probably a little better ... but compared to a "real thermal" I am sure they are not there yet. The Torrey Pines were barely good enough to hunt for your friendly house cat who got lost in the backyard :D

My friend has a thermal contraption that he attached to his phone and it worked better than the Leupold thermal and is half the price.
I think Leupold should stick to making scopes and leave the thermal market alone.
