What's the lines for/function?

I seen one go on e-bay for $1825 yesterday. Lota money for ring mounting lines. What's so great about this scope?

The clone guys go crazy for them. This is the correct scope for one of the mk12 variants. I also sold one not to long ago for $1800.

At the 2018 NRA Convention in Dallas, Leupold had them for sale but I called and ordered one over the phone.
Here it is mounted on my MR556.
I was told the lines are for laser alignment.
I don’t have a laser for alignment and just made sure the horizontal line was located between the ring faces.
The scope also has an attachment for the battery cover, so you don’t lose it.

Interestingly enough, this particular scope is incorrect for the mk12 cloners. This model came out a few years after the whole mk12 program was retired, and in addition to the lines in the tube, the battery cap has a tether. Yet this model commands the biggest premium by the clone world, because it comes standard with the 77gr turret... a turret that you can get for the more correct models for a whopping $36 through Leupold.

I brought this up in one of the mega-threads on another site and it seems that, because it is the current production optic of the same nomenclature, it is considered desirable. That does not make a great deal of sense to me as the regular mark 4 mr/t is closer to what was actually issued late in the MK12 program.

"Clone" parts seem to be the only thing that appreciates in this game. I listed an ARMS SPR/PEQ rail for the PRI CF tubes a couple years ago for $325 that I'd bought for $125 originally. It sold in less than three minutes.

Pretty sure the marines just picked this optic for one of their rifles as well.

Not a damn thing, given how much they command in the secondary market. Had one for a year on my Mod 1 and it sucked. The nightforce 2.5-10x24 I had replaced it with spins circles around it (glass, turret feel, etc). I actually like most mk4s but they missed with that one IMO. Prefer the 1.5x24 w/ the SPR reticle leupold offers if comparing those two scopes.

Ive since sold the NF and planning on a vortex 1-10 or another CQBSS for my Mk12.

Damn. I sold mine for $1,100 a year ago

Take it for what its worth but Leupold seems to think it was used on the mk12 mod1

Leupold isn’t going as far as, say, Daniel Defense with their “mk12”... The original mil designation for the 3-9x M2 that eventually became a 2.5-8x was TS-30/TS-30A2. That product line was evolved over the years by Leupold as improvements (such as the boxier illumiation&occular housing). The latest variant with all the improvements is the model of this thread with the lines and the battery cap tether. When the USMC wanted to scope the HK’s with their familiar scope from the old mk12’s, they ordered more “TS-30A2’s”. This is just the latest evolution, and because it has the official mk12 77gr turret, the clone world gravitated to it since it was the only option, albeit a misinformed one.

the lines are for 20 year old grunts to make sure the scope is level. :)

This scope was the mainstay of the Mk12 program for a decade on both the Mod0 and Mod1. The lines came years later, and now the Marines use it on their HK 416 based marksman rifles. It is a fine scope. Leupold really does not make a bad scope. Some avereage scopes, sure. But no bad scopes.

Yes, that is our picture.

Agreed, the 2.5-8 mk4 just sucks in general. Had one on my Holland for a day. I do like the 3.5-10 mk4 though.

The 2.5-10x24 nxs is a much better option, but I'm still partial to the x50

Hi, Unable to attend NRA Show in Dallas. Understand that MK12
Special Purpose Rifle (SPR) - Mark 4 MR/T 2.5-8x36mm TS-30 A2 was
available at the show. What is the price and can I order one?

E-mail Sept 26th 2019 as follows:
Hello Sir,

Unfortunately we do not have any TS30 A2s at the moment. Please keep in touch they come in stock every so often.

Thanks!

Very nice. I will get a 2.5–10 the next time I see a deal on one. I wasn’t paying attention and missed a helluva deal on one on eBay a while back.

mod H is best mod

Yea it is...my mod H currently also wears a leupold mark 4 3.5-10x40 M3. This particular one has a FFP gen 2 mildot installed by Premier back in the early 2000’s.

The Marines designate the rifle/optic as the M38.
My rifle is not as a clone as I have not chnaged the original HK MR556 markings but I thought when I found out that Mark 4 production was Going entirely to the Military, that this scope was available from Leupold directly, why not?

Picked up aTS30A2 with lines/TMR/262 Turrets brandnew from a retailer last year for $700 on clearance. They didn't know what they have. They also have a M3 3.5-10 military version for M118LR for $900. I may offer them $600 and see if they take it...been siting in case for 3+ years.

Anyone know if the 3.5-10's are going up in value like the 2.5-8's?

Was the Leupold VarX-III LR 3.5-10 M3's #51850 Mil-Dot used by the military before the Mk12 program? This was before there was Mark-4's.

I know this is an old thread but no one replied to your question. Yes...the Vari-X #51850 was on M110s and Mk14 EBRs...as well as other DMR type rifles including M21s...it was the workhorse of the early days of GWoT marksman rifles...
