Alright I think I'm in the right section for this I have a vx3 with m1 turrets and mil dot reticle it is a 6.5 x 20x40 and also have a brand new mark 4 which is a 4.5x14x50 it has the duplex reticle. The intended rifle is a savage lrp 6.5 creedmoor. I'm torn between which one to use I rarely shoot past 600 yards but when I do it's out to around 850 yards. My questions are will the mark 4 have enough magnification to do this, and is the mil dot reticle that big of a help? I would just like some input from the more experienced people here and I have weaver tatical rings on it now they are the high spacing if I went to the 40mm objective what spacing rings would I need and are there a better choice without breaking the bank? Thanks guys for any help.

Since you rarely shoot past 600 I'd go with the Mark 4...its a better scope than the VX3 plus it has a 50mm objective which is better for low light situations. 14x will get you to 1000 for the occassion use.

Guess it would depend on the type of shooting you do. For static a high mag scope will be beneficial, but for shooting and moving (you or the target) I prefer a lower magnification. The Mk4 is rugged and has great glass, but it does not make the VX3 garbage. They both have similar glass, just better coatings on the MK4, thicker tube and a more robust erector. What would have been perfect is if the MK4 had the mildot, this way you could range and dial. If it all does not work out, sell them both and get something tailored to your rifle / shooting scenario.

I mostly shoot off a bench hardly ever moving targets but I noticed on the mark 4 the turrets feel stiff and the "click" sound made my adjustments you can barley hear and feel is this normal?
