I know that this isn't an apples to apples comparison necessarily, but these are the two scopes I'm considering putting on my 6.5 Ruger Precision. Vortex Gen II Razor 4.5-27 & VX6HD 4-24X52, The gun is almost a strictly practice gun. No PRS, just want to shoot it to get better at shooting for hunting mainly. I might take it for coyotes or the occasional deer or antelope, but it's not my main hunting gun.
The reason for the two diametrically opposed scopes is the vortex is just a big fat scope that I will always keep on the RPR and not use it for much else. If I was desperate I would carry the 3 lb toad around the mountains I guess. I'm considering the VX6HD because it is probably the scope I would put on a hunting rifle. If I put it on the RPR, I could remove it and put it on a hunting rifle for hunting season and swap it back and forth between guns.
There is a 2000 yard range near my place with steel scattered about all over. I have big long range plans for the RPR. Would the VX6HD be up to the task? Where might it fall short? How does the glass, turrets, and tracking compare?
Any other scopes you would consider? I probably wouldn't want to stray too far from the $1500 ballpark, but am open to used scopes.
As I write this, I'm starting to think the Mark 5HD 5-25x56 might be a good option too. How would this guy compare to the Razor. It seems to be more tactical than the VX6HD and is still lightweight.
Thanks!
