Hello,
I'm new to the tactical rifle world. I managed a good deal with a Rem 700. On top of it sits a Leupold 10-40x50 SF scope. Being new to long range shooting, I'm not terribly sure what to expect as far as capabilities from a long scope. Is there a certain field of view I should expect? The scope has light gathering abilities as well. How much light can I expect to get from this thing? Please do accept my completely new to this world questions. Thanks for any replies in advance.

Re: Leupold

I'd hit the vendor's site as I'm sure they have specs on light transmission, eye relief, etc. FOV is different for each scope and some have more than others.

I'm not familiar with that particular scope but it's probably more than enough for a new shooter.

Re: Leupold

Im guessing you have a Mk4. They may not be the in vogue scope around here but theyre a damn good scope regardless. As for specs they can be found at Leupold.com although I dont think they list what the light transmission is although the Mk4 fixed scopes all have excellent glass. Not to mention the 10x was the standard for years in the military and LE.

Re: Leupold

Chop,

What kind of reticle is on that? A mildot or TMR?

If it's just a duplex you may be in a world of hurt trying to range targets at unknown ranges. My buddy has a higher power Leupold and he knows his ballistics and how many rotations of the elevation to nail a deer out to 800 yards but deer are rather large targets.

Just depends on your application I guess.

I had Premier boost one up to 40x. I cant remember what the bottom end was but I know it wasnt 10x. I figure the 40 got added by accident. Im guessing anyhow.
