Hello all,

Putting together a 45-70 for an acquaintance on mine. Will be a 16" Rossi trapper for deer hunting in the thicker parts of his lease. He wants the Ranger point stuff and all that. He wants a scope for it. Probably in the $600-$700 range. I have some inroads with Sig and Leupold, so those brands would be a plus. Would very much appreciate input from someone who's been down this road.

Thanks!

I put a 4-14x56 SHV on my Henry X-Model 45-70.

My woods are fairly thick, and 4x is a little more than I usually want on the low end, but I'm sure it's going to work fine.

I put the Magpul stock on mine and that allowed me to mount a 3.5x35 acog I had laying around
So far its working

Another option is the 1.5x6x42 S&B
Euro optic had then on sale for around $1250

Guess I’m still old school on Levers.
I’ve got an M8 2.5 on my Henry .45 Colt. It’s like looking through a toilet paper tube, but I think you could drive horseshoe nails with it and it’d hold zero.
I almost peep sighted it, but wound up shuffling that scope over from my #1 .45-70.
If I had it to do over, I’d probably just put a dot on it, but it’s a .45 Colt.
FWIW, the .45-70 now wears a VX-III 1.5-5.
Once upon a time, I racked up on $150 used Leupys…..

A bit older of a thread, however, I've been running my Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 on my 30-30 now for 11 months on my suppressed Henry model X. I've killed countless hogs, coyotes, and bobcats as this is my 'creek walk' gun. I did add a FORM Rifle stock to allow for a proper cheek weld, and with the Accupoint the total rifle weight is 10.2lbs (Henry is 8lbs to start).
Scope is mounted with WARNE QD rings as I also run my Pulsar XG35 thermal for night runs.

I have also ran a Sig Romeo 8 and a Trijicon RMR; however, the 1-4 green triangle has been my favorite and remains mounted indefinitely now.

I keep hoping with the surge in interest with the lever guns that someone will come out with an illuminated reticle scout scope. Leupold and Vortex are still making the scout optics (longer eye relief) but more on the budget side of the line.

I put a Leupold FX-II 2.5x scout rifle on my Marlin Dark. Love the looks and the performance. I had a red dot on it for a while but the little bit of extra magnification helps these older eyes. Love shooting big subs- the 490gr cast/powder coated 45-70 is a hoot.
