As it has been a few months, and it has all been taken care of by now, I will convey this story.

Get up, work out, shower, shave and head to work. I live 3 miles from my place of employment. On my way, driver shoots out of gas station, across a double yellow line and two lanes of traffic, nearly T-boning me in the process. The driver just tosses his hand up in the air like, why are you in my way? Smh...

Go home for lunch and to let the dog out. Get back on the road, only I need to head down to Pt. Loma to have a discussion with a customer. In the right side left turn lane (double lane) and I notice a Black LR4 pull up next to me in the left turn lane. Green arrow shows, and I go into the turn, merging on to the right side on ramp to the I-15. The fucking LR-4 just moves on into my lane (with me in it) because they decided they need to get on the I-15, but didn't want to wait behind the three vehicles in line behind me. I'm laying on the horn, and the asshole just merges over, flips me off and accelerates in to traffic weaving between cars into the right lane and then floors it (probably going close to 90-95mph). Smh...what a dick.

Have my meeting, get back to the office, tie off some loose ends and head to the grocery store on the way home, since I needed some shit for dinner. Coming around a bend in a two lane road, and I see a lady on the right, trying to turn left from a day care center, but traffic is heavy due to rush hour, and she can't see around the bend. I look in the rear view mirror and no one is behind me, so I stop and wave her to cross. She waves a "thank you", smiles and goes about her way. I feel kind of good, doing my good deed for the day, feeling like I've done my bit to make the world a bit more considerate. As I go another 30yds, I come to a four way stop, stop and proceed through the intersection which then turns into two lanes (left or right turn only). As I'm coming through the four way stop, there's an asshat in Subaru CXV on the left, and he shoots across the double yellow lines (two of them on each side of the median) and then blocks both lanes, as the right turn lane is too full for him to pull into it. I lock up my tires, lay on the horn and throw my hands up in the air with a "WTF?" gesture. Asshat flips me off. The line advances so he can get his car fully into the lane, and I pull up next to him and look over like and mouth "WTF dude?" He turns his head to ignore me, and flips me off. At this point I've had it. I get out of the car and walk over with a "hey fuck face, what the fuck are you doing", and a "get out the car and do that shit again". He flips me off again, but is pinned in traffic between my car and the ones in front and behind him.

Now, I'm normally the most mellow guy there is, and most around me comment on that, but today I'd had it.

Do you know that a size 12 Lowa desert boot can not only dent a Subaru door when planted firmly flat on the side, but that it can totally shatter the entire window carriage? At any rate, asshat gets out of his car then, whining that now he needs my insurance info, to which I promptly tell him "Fuck you! Next time you flip someone off after cutting them off, maybe you'll think twice." get in my car and leave.

Now this is the social media age, so everyone had their phones out (apparently). So about two hours later, there's a knock at the front door, and the po po is there. We have a lengthy discussion about what happened, he writes down my insurance info, so that the shit can get handled without a police report being filed (the officer apparently saw the video, which at the time I didn't know existed, and just wanted to see if I was being truthful). Turns out the asshat was making false claims that I tried to run him over and some other bullshit, so the officer just decided to let the insurance companies resolve this (something like, he'll file, but he won't get crap, and this all goes away). Unfortunately, I didn't realize the amount of damage I did to his car door (well, maybe; a 6'2" guy planting a solid lugged boot into a car door is going to leave a mark).

Long story short, guy's insurance company denies him, but the replacement cost is a entire new door (above $2000), so (now contrite) asshat files a felony vandalism charge. Detective and I have conversation, to which I mentioned that I had told the original officer I had no problems paying for damage; I'd lost my temper, and that would come with a price.

So, all being said, I fork over $2200, butt head apologizes and that was that.

It was interesting through, since the guy was afraid to meet face to face (detective made this long diatribe about how shook up the guy was that this had happened), so I just paypal'ed his ass. WTF dude? I suppose all accountants aren't closet assassins after all.

Am I sorry I lost my temper? Yes, but not because of the bill . I just hate loosing my shit. But that being said, I bet him, and everyone watching that day, is going to think twice about flipping someone off in traffic. Suddenly "the rules don't apply to me", is turned into "the rules may not apply to them either, better be careful and follow the rules to avoid that". In some ways, I consider it money well spent, if it gets just one person to think twice.

I will say, I was a bit apprehensive when the po po showed up, but really, after about 5 mins of talking with the officer, I knew it was going to be fine. I could tell, he totally got what happened, but was trying to fit it into a solution that still met his obligations. We actually had a pretty pleasant conversation as he was taking down notes and information, with him asking about how I liked the LR Discovery, and how well did it drive? We continued with some small talk about some of the very things that Alphadog touches on; Why people are getting less reverent of the law and societal rules, narcissistic tendencies influencing everyday people and their views of the world around them (myopic at best, oblivious at worst). He mentioned just coming from a gas station down the road, where a lady started punching another lady because she didn't think the lady was pumping her gas fast enough. Smh...

This whole event leaves me feeling concerned about where the country is going, and the mindset of many in this younger generation. So absorbed in their small world, that is falsely portrayed as large via social media and such.

I will say, my respect for the SDPD officers on the street, was bolstered immensely (I've known a few over the years, with some of them leaving me very underwhelmed with the quality of officers we had). This officer had soft skills in spades, and I mean in spades. Talking with him, and listening to his tone of voice, inflection, the careful wording of his questions and they way he guided the conversation was pretty fascinating to watch. I could see the care at which he was handling the situation, and the fine line he was walking in trying to get information, not inflame the situation, remain in control/authority, and the reasoning/explaining of where lines were crossed (legally) and potential repercussions (without being threatening). I never did get his name, but whoever he is, they need to promote that guy and/or get more like him. A real consummate professional, without being overbearing or threatening. Kudos to him.

The moral of your story seems to be the continuing decline of our civilization.

Rude, dangerous and ill tempered people get away with everything and where are the police to arrest them when causing significant traffic chaos and endangering lives on the road?

Actually, in my conversation with the officer this came up as well. I made the exact same comment as you; that there aren't enough police to handle all this surge in "I don't need to follow the law, just everyone else" attitude. I think most LEO's try to be fair as they can be, and side with neither side (SJW/Conservative) and just try to adhere to the laws, with a little discretion here and there. He commented that yes, there aren't enough of them, and general society behaving well is something they rely on to keep the peace.

This is a cultural issue, not a LE issue (IMHO). When I put my foot down, I crossed the line. I paid the price (financially) for that act. I owned it. The difference today is that so many these days are unwilling to own up to their mistakes or failures, and instead want to justify what they did as being acceptable; just like the whole Sanders being booted from a restaurant. The owner justified/rationalized her bad behavior, rather than admit it was patently wrong, and goes against every value of common courtesy our society (used to) have.
