I have a armalite ssass 7.62 that I use for night vision hog hunting. With all the equipment on it the gun is to heavy to free hand. You must use shooting sticks to be accurate. Is there a reliable, lighter 7.62 that would still alow for the equipment(suppressor,torch,etc.). Any suggestions, ideas appreciated.

This year, I will be.

LoL

Something tells me I'll be doing more sitting (in a stand) than walking though. LoL

Seriously, Hit The Gym. I have been playing sports my whole life but I have also always worked out. Lifting weights will not only make you feel better but you will have more confidnece and you will look better. Just saying as far as carrying your gun goes if you are lifting you are getting STRONGER which makes the gun LIGHTER. My experience anyways.

Re: Lighter 7.62

You're not going to be able to drop that much weight per a scale, but you can change the center of gravity. I suppose your suppressor is attached to a 20" or longer? go to 16 or shorter, much less torque. Better yet, go to one of the titanium suppressors, use a 10 round mag instead of a 20. There are lighter rails out there, and their gas block system has some extra mass to it, but you won't gain that much.

Weight management.

Re: Lighter 7.62

I started hunting with ar10's using an AR10-T. Loaded with 24" heavy stainless barrel it was HEAVY! After two years I move to a semi heavy 20" for another 6 years and now went to a medium weight 18" barrel and rarely throw the suppressor on it. It is still 12 pounds but is not that bad because it balances well, offhand shots are smooth too. I did play with a 9 pound ar10 for a while but decided a few pounds for more accuracy was worth it.

Re: Lighter 7.62

Have not seen any reviews and wouldn't think it's built anywhere near as well or shoots as good as say a JP or LaRue hunting AR but Christensen Arms lists the weight on their CA-10 between 6 & 8 pounds, depending on options

Re: Lighter 7.62

It's not carrying the gun it's shooting it accurately without a rest. I don't lift weights(not sure how you knew), but I farm and am very active. Thanks

Re: Lighter 7.62

JP LRP-07 is fairly light, love mine. No exp. using a suppressor on it. I've seen a couple of .223 AR's that weighed almost as much. The KAC EMC is in the same weight range. JP has a very nice trigger, good rifle.

Re: Lighter 7.62

DPMS LR-308L weighs 7.9lbs empty, has a rifle length 18" barrel, and shoots tiny bitty groups. All for a princely sum of $1200. Get an upper or the entire rifle and be done with the dumb shit.

Re: Lighter 7.62

I could shoot both of these rifles off hand without problems, I do not lift weights and am just active. I find longer stands where I would raise and lower the rifle more often would fatigue me with the 18" with the can, the 16" bare was a breeze and only a few pounds over my AR-15. I added pics to give a sense of the difference and you can see where the weight is on these.
