Rifle Scopes Lighter Scope Option

Used Premier Light Tactical 3-15x50. My non-illuminated model is 24oz. That's what I'm currently running. I may eventually go to the NF ATACR 4-16x50 so I can have a SFP scope with more travel. I like them a bit better for hunting. I ran the Premier though for the SHC last year, and did awesome with it. It's a dandy little scope when you can find them.

Man, I really like the looks of that Premier.. I don't see one for sale anywhere though. I had never heard of them.

If $$$ isn't a concern, the march 3-24 cant be beat for weight, size, and mind blowing glass. then you have the Vertex AMG, Luppy 3-18, LRHS, Steiner 3-15 T5xi, and on the cheap side, the hunting scopes that are capped ffp scopes like the Burris Veracitor and Vortex Viper IIRC... For compact size alone, I would look at the March or Luppy 3-18 followed by the Steiner 3-15. All 3 are feature rich compact scopes...and you can find the 3-15 steiner dirt cheap.

Also someone mentioned Sig Tango 6 scopes on clearance in the 3-18 range don't remember for around $750 so search that. I saw the thread yesterday. Seemed like a decent scope but havnt got my hands on one yet.

Good luck!

I'd be interested at that price, got a link?

I think the Tango 6 come in around 30oz. Sig's site has spec's but don't give you a whole lot of info.

I think I came across what I want. Cabelas/Vortex Intrepid- 4.5-22x50mm comes in around 22oz, says it uses HD glass, 30MM tube, has lower profile turrets. this will be going on a hunting rig so should work out well. Don't see a whole lot about them, but I like that magnification range!

Leupold Mark 4 FFP M5. Not sexy, not optimal for a PRS competition rig, 5-mil per revolution, no zero stop, but a functional battle proven optic at 22 oz. The glass agrees well with my eyes.

What do you want the rifle to do?

Mainly it will be a hunting rig, but plan on shooting a bit on the range just for fun. I will not be doing any competitions. It's going on a 243 Win. I'm currently building

I just said besides a vortex viper as that is the only thing I have found that fits my needs in a descent price range. I prob could have stated I don't want to spend over a grand.

I think I've found what I want in the Cabelas/Vortex Intrepid Scope.

Well for a very light scope with a retical you can hold it all in, I'd look at a used 2.5x8x36 Leupold Veri X3 then have the reticle changed to the TS 32 X1 MOA. I shoot one to 800 w/o issue and on 2.5 X even fast moving deer or hogs are easy to pickup an drop. For a straight up killing scope these (even before the reticle changes) have always done me well. A used one is about 250-275 and the reticle change is 160.00 to your door from Leupold.

I'm working on putting together a lighter weight rifle and don't want it weighed down by a 30+ oz scope. Something in the 3-15x range. Any suggestions besides a Vortex Viper?

The Athlon Midas 2.5-15 is 26 oz. and has better glass than the Viper in my opinion. It is also easier on the wallet.

The new Athlon Ares 2.5-15 has HD glass, locking turrets, 10mil per rotation turrets and comes in under 30 oz. it is a direct competitor to the Vortex pst gen 2.

Athlon Ares are good looking scopes! Thanks for all the info, appreciate it! But I ordered that Cabela's/Vortex Intrepid
