    Installing Proof Savage prefit on my TL3, will lithium grease work for the barrel tenon or should I find some anti-seize at the local auto parts store. Any suggestions?

    I use NAPA Copper based Anti-Seize. A little bit goes a longgggg way. This topic was just discussed three or four weeks ago, so I think others will chime in. One of the posters on the previous thread used soemthing that seemed like an even better idea, I just don't recall what it was. I haven't had any issues with the NAPA stuff, just make sure you don't put everything together dry, particularly if the barrel (as well as the action) is stainless. Stainless on stainless "dry" is just asking for (expensive) trouble.

    i would go with antiseize over lithium grease......simply because of the temperatures involved.

    most lithium greases are only effective up to 300*F

    anti seize is good up to 1600*F

    a jar of antiseize is like $5 and will last you for life.

    No, I have not; because I already have a tube of Never-Seize which will probably turn out to be a lifetime supply for me at my age. I did put it on my Amazon wish list just in case I outlive that tube. LOL! I just don't expect to be building enough Uppers to need more.

    The customer reviews appear to be positive enough.

    Just an FYI, moly based is somewhat hydroscopic. That said I have used it, and the copper based stuff for years, and never had any problems. Even in Arkansas humid summers.

    Greg;

    I hear Ya, thanks for the response.......I too have what is amounting to a tub/10 lifetime supply of the copper based Napa stuff. Once it dries up (one way or another), I’ll probably pick up some of the stuff you linked to. It looks to be superior in many ways. OTOH, the NAPA stuff has been working fine and I hate to “throw her over” for a superior brand, that’d just be wasteful.

    I've got Aeroshell 64 (formerly 33MS). I believe it's specifically meant for dissimilar metals, but I imagine it'll work for this case as well? If not, I've got copper anti-seize, nickel anti-seize, Lubriplate, and hi-temp brake grease to choose from in the garage.
