I agree with 24" to 26" for an optimum length for long range shooting with the 260 but I'd have no problem with a 20" and would not feel undergunned at any distance at a match. It'll go further which Tom Sarver has proved hitting his mile target with no problem but there are much better rounds suited for those distances than the 260.

My son and I use 15" barrels with our 260s and have no problem with 1000 yard targets even though we're only getting around 2550fps with the 139 Lapua Scenars. It'd be nice to hit 2800fps but it's not a necessity. We're needing 35 1/2 minutes to 1000 yards from a 200 yard zero. Short barrels don't mean less accuracy just need a few more MOA to get it there.

I don't see any problem with a 20" rifle for competition for 1000 yards although a bit of extra length will let you stretch it out a bit further with the slight increase in velocity. Like others have said,if you plan on carrying it all day at tactical matches then the shorter length is a benefit with no loss of accuracy. Depends on what you want to do with it which helps make the barrel length choice the right one for you.

this statement made me LMAO especially since there are tons of guys building short barreled 6.5's all the time and i have always asked myself if your going to run a short barrel 260 why not just shoot a 308?

What's the butt pad on this stock? Is it able to be integrated with the LOP system?

I've been shooting a 20" .308 for about three years. I can't imagine going with anything else. I will continue shooting it most and replace it with another 20" when its exhausted. I love short .308s.

My current 6.5x47 project is going to be 27".

My 6.5-284 is 28".

Hopefully, without straying off topic my 6.5 Creed was a 27" barrel and after carrying it around for the last 2 years I decided to change the complexion of things.
Went from a MCS-T4A to an MCS TA and cut the barrel down to 22" and now I absolutely love this thing. Best decision for this rifle that I could have made. Altough I've not chrono'ed the round (Kreiger, 1-8, med palma)I've seen no appreciable change in performance while still having much better results <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> at half the recoil of my .308's.

The pad on those rifles is a Pachmayr D550 that is custom ground to my shape by Pachmayr. It mates to the exact same shape LOP spacer that is injection molded for me in Idaho. The whole shmear bolts into an aluminum base plate with HeliCoils that take some big ass 1/4-24 bolts.

May possibly make that standard on all future stocks. Beauty of doing these rifle jobs is that they go to the field and get the snot beat out of them. I can get real feedback and good critique prior to making it a mainstream feature.

This has always been my preferred pad and setup but until recently, I couldn't arrange the logistics of the parts blend for this stock.

I have a 24" build going on with Roscoe at la precision. I was looking at my 700p and thought why not cut this down to a shorty. So I dropped the barreled action off with Roscoe to cut it down to 19" thread and cap it with a tactical bolt knob. The more I think about it the more excited I get about this face lift. I would not have done this if I was not having the other one built. I should get it back in a few and take it to the range. It should be interesting if nothing else.

Very nice rifles. But the wife kicked me in the balls when I told her I wanted another firearm. Thank God I didn't tell her the price.

It's a significant charge of Varget, CCI BR2, and Win brass. You need to find where your guns max load is and work down from there. Me telling you what my charge isn't gonna do you any good.

Terry, not meaning to bother you but is there a point at which addt'l length is near pointless? I like the 26" length, but have been considering a 28" or potentially a 30" Kreiger for ELR (non-tactical whatsoever) purposes. Or am I barking up the wrong tree, .260 is still supersonic past 1200m so what is the point?

Edit: Your pod-loc is amazing.
