LMT 308.... is it the best 308?

The LMT 308 MWS. I see a lot for sale here and on other boards , and they never stay for sale - for long! So are the LMT 308’s in the top tier of 308 AR15 platform rifles? If so what makes them so great!?

they absolutely are. arguably people will tell you the LMT, KAC sr25, Seekins Sp-10, GAP 10 and Larue are among the best you can buy. LMT specifically has been awarded several international and domestic swat contracts that gives people a reassurance of reliability to make them a lasting brand to pay a premium for.

LMT does something unique none of the rest do - monolithic uppers. This has its advantages (sturdy NV/ laser platform & quick change barrels). You can change calibers or length with 2 Torx screws like MRAD and AI which is pretty cool. LMT is my personally favorite brand for high end AR right now and I have two of their weapons platform albeit not both complete yet.

I mean for my mws I have four different calibers that I switch out whenever I want to and also for different types of hunting.
Reliability is another reason. My mws eats whatever I give, reloads or factory doesn't care which. The price you pay for the modularity and the fit and finish is extremely reasonable.
Their gas ports and tubes are over sized so they'll run nonstop but are a little gassy suppressed. But a black river tactical ez tune gas tube will fix it easily.

Just had mine cerakoted. I've owned quite a bit of large frame ars Kac, lmt, home built, shot scars, jps. But at the end of the day it what you did and I dig multiple calibers for one platform🤙

Just be skeptical of those claiming 1 moa accuracy out of the box with the CL barrel. With good ammo and a bit of luck perhaps 2 moa.
I don’t claim to be well-seasoned on large frame, but I can’t think of a time it’s ever shot that bad, except during old development. With a load it likes, well below 2 MOA consistently. I’m under no illusion that it is a sub-MOA rifle (atleast not with me shooting it)

While I really like my MWS and would place it at the top of 308 guns, I really don't think there is a best, just what works best for the user. While it is used down range by groups that walk around quite a bit, I am not sure that I would recommend it for walkabout/hunting rifle as there are just better 308 gas guns for that role.

I have owned, a built up armalite, a built up mega with noveske barrel, I Currently own a MWS, SR25 and Scar 17. I find the MWS a little more appealing that my other current rifles as its just more flexible than the other two. While the MWS might be a little heavier that KAC or FN, my ability to go from a 13.5 308 barrel to a 20 inch 6.5 barrel in under two minutes is pretty nice.

At the end of the day there are a lot of good 308 gas guns out there, I personally am a really big fan of KAC and LMT. I also really like the idea of a GAP accuracy build

I own an MWS and a LaRue OBR among other 308 AR's My OBR consistently shoots well under 100 yard 5 shot groups (0.75 moa most commonly) while my MWS shots 1.25 moa on a good day.

SS barrel on the lmt?

my 20 ss lmt is now shooting .6 area as the barrel get's broken in. she's a laser

when I jump into the 6.5cm game, I'll go this route again

How did you leave out JP?! Such blasphemy....

The reality is that the only two 308 gassers that have had extensive real world mil use is the lmt and kac. These two are well known for reliability, accuracy, dependability and functionality. Every other gasser is a distant second, this is not debatable.

Gassers are dirty require cleaning not to mention the toxic smoke inches from your face from propellant combustion which causes pulmonary edema, save your lungs buy a piston. Thats why ever terrorist and enemy use AK47's, they avoid lung disease at all cost.

None of that is even in the equation. I want a reliable system that shoots well. LMT is that in spades, at half the cost of KAC, and modular.
With your logic, because there is no safe level of exposure to lead, we can't shoot any lead-containing bullets. The gun hating left did this in CA to ban ammunition.

it's why I ignored his moronic response. There's always one...lol

1.25 out of a cl barrel is not bad, what ammo? My 16 cl barrel is right at moa with quality ammo.

obr is ss right

not really a fair comparison by any stretch
I can get between 1-1.25” with reloads, using weigh sorted LC brass & 168’s or 175’s. I’m not upset by it, I figure guys claiming consistent sub MOA groups with the barrel either got lucky, or are full of it

What the fuck did I just read.
hey, even the taliban have switched, since they don't have to be cleaned constantly to run, and they can get nato ammo cheaper on the black market than ammo for their AKs. we can assume brennan and the cia trained many of them at the same time they were training syrian terrorists with our tax money. where do you think all the ammo is going, in people's garages?

We trained and used OBL to fight the Russians but that bit us in the ass big time. You would think they would of deep six his ass soon after the mission was over like Lee Harvey to tie things off.

perhaps, but then he didn't stop their access to opium money so maybe they had worked out a deal of some kind.

I disagree. I used some 08/09 m118lr I had sitting around, along with some ab39, and both were easy MOA with several groups below that. A friend had another 16” CL that I spent some time on, with similar results. There’s my sample size of two.

Edit - meant to quote Diverdon.

i don't think cl chf means it cannot be sub moa with the right ammo. fn certainly does it so other makers can too.

Beast of a gun but dont expect it to be a bolt action accurate unless you are up to the task.

Still for the average shooter it will reliably sling lead in MOA groups suitable for all practical targets.

they do and they don't. I've had plenty that didn't and know guys who I trust who said theirs were.

I agree with your premise 100% however(y)
as noted elsewhere by me, i am happier to get the 1.6 moa from m80 that it is specified than worried about whether it is capable of the .75 moa that the company (and most owners) claim to get with match ammo. but i don't compete and i am not operator af.

A couple of my early barrels were sub MOA- but generally only with 175s. It would run FGMM pretty tight but it shot best with my hand rolled as well as the apparently now defunct Copper Creek Gas Gun 175s. Still have several boxes- those guys made some great ammo. Those bbls were Rock Creek spun and CL. Most were purchased in the 2012ish timeframe and I has CL and SS in 308, 260, and 338. My best shooters believe it or not were the CL 16” in 308. My 260s never shot quite as tight.

My more recent one is an lm8 and the barrel is definitely not the same. I cannot speak to its true potential as I have not taken the time to work up a load for it.

Maybe 10 years ago...the field of large frame AR’s have come a long way in that time.

I have kept JP, larue, PWS, KAC and so on (instructor/Leo demos) and they are all comparable or exceed these days.

hell, I recently got rid of a PSA gen 2 6.5 creedmoor and replaced it with a PSA gen 3 308...even those hunk of shit rifles are reliable now...not in the same league as far as everything goes...but still a realizable totally serviceable rifle

308 is an AR10 PLATFORM. My experience says that the ARMALITE AR10T is the best option for serious shooters and is deadly out to a grand all day long. Price is right where you want to be for a working man(or woman). If you want the best, that's my opinion. 168gr , decent glass, and time behind will allow you to send your message. Good luck

That looks amazing. I wish I had the balls to try camo patterns with Cerakote. I only do solid colors and recently did mine in Cobalt Kinetics Green.
