So I have a chance to pick up a LM8MWSF at a really good price, and I've always wanted one for a all around good battle rifle..The only issue i have is that i can't seem to find any good info on a successful High End Barrel ( Bartlein/krieger) conversion.. for the MWS with a Range Report to show the improvement..

If anyone has done this please fill me in..Thanks

The company that does the conversion states a 10-day turn around for any already-chambered AR-10 barrel.

Please check the stickier LMT thread up top.

My Colt LE 6920 M4 would shoot 1.5" to 2.0" groups with good reloads. This wasn't accurate enough so I got a White Oak Armament 18" 1 in 7" twist varmint upper and had it Fluted to save weight. My very first 5 shot group with 65 grain Game Kings at 100 yards I shot after 2 shots to sight in the scope is below. The next group was much smaller with Sierra 69 gr. Match Kings. WOA is the only brand that I have never heard a complaint about. Also I think that all their barrels that are not chrome lined are their best quality so you should get a tac driver.

I have a 16" chrome lined MWS and plan on getting something like what you're talking about eventually. Definitely interested to see if this thread gets some good information on MWS conversions added to it.

I've already read about them , not to impressed. Hopefully this thread develops because I think a MWS with a 18" bartlein would be awesome.. Really Give the GAP 10's and LRP-07 a good run.

LMT BARREL CONVERSIONS

There were some disgruntled people a couple years ago that complained about their slow service and lack of communication.

I can't speak for their present level of service.

I can't speak for their present level, either. I called and they quoted me 10 days, iirc. Whether or not it works well, I guess someone will have to pony up for the conversion to happen.

I emailed them a few months back when I asked if they were the artist formerly known DBMG, ball park lead times and if they still did conversions. Three weeks later I got a reply that they were and a quote of 3 weeks turn around on a MWS conversion. Kind of slowed me down to think that turn around on the conversion work took the same amount of time as returning a potential customers email. Doesn't mean they can't do it though. Haven't seen any recent reviews of their work. If I ever get one done I will post here for sure.

If you are referring to Mark at Short Action Customs they are not making barrels for MWS or and AR's for that matter. I emailed them and got this reply

"Thank you for your interest. We are currently not making barrels for that platform or AR's. I have no idea who is making them but if I hear of anybody, I will forward you their contact information.

Mark"

So if you could Clarify what SAC is that would be helpful.

I guess they're not doing them anymore. Sorry to hear. It would be nice to have someone spinning these up. It would be easy work and people would pay.

Bummer...

Help has arrived.....

I contacted Jeff Hayes and he will do the conversion the only downside is that you have to cannibalize your stock barrel for the berrel extension.
He did a bartlein conversion for one of his coworkers at GAP a few years back and he said it was easily a sub 1/2 shooter..

His phone number is .. 816-803-8398

This is a reason to look elsewhere besides the MWS Platform.

The practicality is , if you want seperate calibers, get two guns. You will spend a ton of money in the long run for half the product.

The MWS is great if you want a flavor they offer. However, there are other Large Frame AR's you can get into that have both superior barrels and use a common Barrel extension making changes pretty easy using convential methods.

Price wise, the MWS is hard to beat if you want a 16" CL .308. I would still preffer a SCAR over it in that price range, but thats your choice. For a 6/6.5mm caliber or for real precision, GAP and JP would be where I was looking.

For you guys that are looking for mrp or mws conversions contact marvin pitts at nefarious arms. He does mrp conversions for sure. I dont have an updated service list, but I know he does the mrp for sure. The name may not be well known here, but in the ar world he is known to do outstanding work.

If you look him up you will see lots of examples of the work he has done. If you ever see a dimpled barrel that did not come from KAC there's a good chance that he did it. Im not affiliated with nefarious arms in any way.
