So I finally got frustrated trying to find 123 Amax's for my son's Grendel.

    He needed new brass anyway.
    100 pcs brass- $70
    100 bullets-$25

100 rounds of loaded ammo: $110.

And I save some time at the bench. Dunno how it will shoot compared to the 8208 loads, we'll see.

They advertise 2620 fps- which is one hell of a lot more than our accuracy load which is 2350.

I have the same Amax problem with my 7-08, and the 162 Amax. What the fuck's with Hornady discontinuing their match bullets...

The 123 SST's, and the 162's have the exact SAME BC, as the Amax. So why not use them as match target boolits?

He's saying that instead of buying components not put together for about $100 he paid a slight premium and got them already loaded. I did the same thing with 200 Grendel rounds and now have brass to reload (though I wish it was Lapua and not Hornady).

Maybe they just wanted to shoot? My Grendel puts Hornady factory ammo into .5 moa all day long. It's nice to know you can go out and buy ammo if necessary and still get the job done without lovingly hand loading ammo.

The only problem there is you've wasted the first batch of factory ammo. Maybe wasted is too strong a word, but why not use the first batch to work up a load?

Yep...that's why I'm hoping they "shoot". I'll plug the velocity into Strelok and see how they perform. It's definitely a trade-off, though.

As vinsonr said, it's more about getting the "older one" home from college for the weekend to join me and the "younger one" for a trek to the long-range, range...

I recently did the same thing, bought loaded factory Hornady A-Max rather than buying just empty cases. My rifle shoots factory as accurately as I can handload and I have to push It to match factory velocity. You do need to factor in the number of reloads you can get from a case versus cost of the cases.
